General Statement of Duties

Performs professional engineering work in the field and in the office for an assigned department; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
Overview: The Review Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations while contributing to the efficient operation of Henrico County's development projects. This position involves a combination of office and fieldwork, focusing on construction plan review, adherence to regulatory requirements, and effective communication with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
  • • Conduct thorough construction plan reviews to ensure compliance with road and drainage design standards, as well as local, state, and federal regulations including the Virginia Stormwater Regulations, the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act Regulations, the Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES), and the Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Regulations.
    • Utilize the County's Geographic Information System (GIS) for project-related tasks.
    • Engage in verbal and written communication with staff, citizens, developers, and engineers to convey project requirements and address concerns effectively.
    Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices relevant to the assigned position and department.
    • Familiarity with legal, administrative, and technical aspects of applicable local, state, and federal codes and standards.
    • Ability to plan, design, and prepare estimates and specifications, as well as review plans and construction documents.
    • Sound understanding of methods and practices used in engineering, inspection, and construction of County infrastructure projects.
    • Proficiency in making complex engineering calculations and interpreting regulations and policies accurately.
    • Strong multitasking abilities and effective management of competing priorities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
    • Supervisory skills, including workload management and fostering high morale among team members.
    • Critical thinking skills with the ability to problem-solve effectively.
    • Proficiency in personal computers and/or automated systems for data management and analysis.
    • Flexibility in work schedule based on assignments, including the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Physical condition allowing for fieldwork and access to diverse environmental locations countywide.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a four (4) year degree in a relevant recognized field of engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program and one (1) year of related professional experience in engineering; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
This position may be filled as an Engineer I depending on the skills and qualifications of the successful candidate and the needs of the department at the time of hire. (Salary: $69,537 - $127,917)
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. May require annual audio test or other job related physical testing as required by assigned position or department.
