Hennepin Healthcare is Hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Technician (COT) or Technologist (COMT) Near Minneapolis, MN

SUMMARY Hennepin Healthcare has an opening for a Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Technician (COT) or Technologist (COMT) in our CSC Eye Clinic. This full-time position will work days. A $3,000 sign-on bonus is available for uncertified candidates and a $4,000 sign-on bonus is available for certified (COA, COT, or COMT) eligible external candidates (contract/temporary workers and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). Under direction, performs work of moderate difficulty in performing and supervising the performance of a wide range of diagnostic tests for visual acuity and for use by ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and care of diseases of the eyes. RESPONSIBILITIES - Obtains and documents medical and ophthalmic history of patients - Performs and documents a wide range of diagnostic tests and studies such as visual acuity, refraction, central field, and peripheral field testing - Performs tests for color vision, fusion, biometric ruling, retinal correspondence, intra-ocular pressure, corneal sensitivity, pupillary reactions, and diagnosing glaucoma - Performs slit lamp photography, contact lens fittings, and diagnostic ultrasound - May administer ophthalmic medications - May set up and assist in office surgery - May triage patient calls, messages and walk-ins as appropriate - Operates and maintains appropriate medical or diagnostic equipment - Assists in the planning and selection of new equipment - May assist with clinical research studies - Orients medical residents in basic ophthalmic examination techniques - Performs related work as required, but only after appropriate training

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications:- Completion of a two (2) year Ophthalmic Technology program accredited by The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) OR - An approved equivalent combination of education and experience - Certification or eligible for certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant Technician or Ophthalmic Technologist - Newly hired or promoted Ophthalmic Technicians who are not certified must begin the process within six (6) months of hire or promotion, and must pass both parts of the exam (written and skill evaluation) within one (1) year of hire
