Position: Clinical Pharmacy Director Status: Full-time, Exempt

The Clinical Pharmacy Director oversees the clinical pharmacy department at Hemophilia of Georgia. He/she is primarily responsible for supervising and assisting the MTM (Medication Therapy Management) clinical pharmacists and MTM Pharmacy technician in providing MTM services directly with our pharmacy clients. As a member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, the Clinical Pharmacy Director collaborates with nurses, social workers, prescribers and other healthcare providers to help clients manage their medications, providing clients the highest quality of care possible to improve their health outcomes. In order to achieve this, the Clinical MTM pharmacist provides one-on-one phone-based consultations with pharmacy clients. The MTM Pharmacist also performs all pharmacist duties including dispensing in the HoG and Beacon pharmacies. The Clinical Pharmacy Director has primary responsibility for ensuring that all pharmacy accreditation requirements are met for both ACHC and URAC. The Clinical Pharmacy Director works with the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations to ensure proper and accurate reporting for all accreditation agencies.

Hemophilia of Georgia operates an annual summer camp program for children and teens with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. Camp is typically held in July (which may include the Fourth of July) and runs Saturday-Friday, and the date changes each year. Camp is an agency-wide, strategic priority; therefore, all exempt employees must participate. Assignments may include duties at camp, helping campers get to and from camp, and may involve overnight travel. The Director of Camp & Client Events will provide advance notice to exempt employees of where support is needed. PTO requests during the week of camp are generally not approved; however, PTO requests for extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pharm.D. or B.S. Degree, Pharmacy from an accredited program.
  • Must have and maintain current and unrestricted Georgia Pharmacist's license.
  • Minimum of five years’ pharmacy experience including at least two years’ post-graduate experience in patient care with an emphasis on Disease Management with a Specialty Pharmacy required.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work without supervision, to use independent judgment, and to make appropriate decisions.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations.
  • Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Capable of working under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you work productively, effectively, and efficiently with customers, clients, co-workers, volunteers, and management.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide guidance for clinical operational aspects of care management program.
  • Provide oversight of clinical decision-making aspects of care management programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with HTC practitioners and other prescribers.
  • Oversee MTM program duties. This includes being knowledgeable about and complying with accreditation standards. Conduct care coordination meetings with Outreach Nurses and Clinical Nurse Coordinator and review client medication profiles.
  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy.
  • Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage.
  • Communicate with clients and counsel as needed concerning prescriptions, factor, infusion supplies, etc.
  • Resolve all problems prior to filling orders (e.g., expired prescription, etc.).
  • Maintain prescription file. Enter prescriptions into CMS database as needed.
  • Dispense orders for both pharmacies as prescribed by physician, utilizing each patient’s target dose formula.
  • Review and keep abreast of new factor products, including infusion supplies and changes in factor products.
  • Confirm products and dosages with physicians.
  • As directed by the VP of Pharmacy Operations, assist with pharmacy operations for Camp Wannaklot, including the dispensing of Camp Wannaklot prophylaxis prescriptions prior to the beginning of Camp.
  • Keep Vice President of Pharmacy Operations updated on foreseeable problems with product availability, distribution, or client issues.
  • Review inventory of pharmaceutical products to prevent products being kept too long and/or products expiring. Conduct physical count of drug inventory as needed.
  • Assist in dispensing and shipping for contract pharmacy programs as needed.
  • Prepare and issue patient management reports to payers as needed.
  • Assist in coordinating World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) project shipments with WFH staff.
  • Attend professional meetings and read journals to maintain comfortable rapport with health care providers.
  • Meet with pharmaceutical company representatives as directed by the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Take factor orders as needed.
  • Review and recommend new supplies for the pharmacies.
  • As directed by the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations, participate in various committees/teams.
  • Serve on committees related to ACHC and URAC accreditation as required.
  • Work with VP of Pharmacy Operations to collect and report accurate metrics for ACHC and URAC accreditation agencies.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations.
