HELP USA is Hiring a Paralegal & Legal Assistant Near Bronx, NY
Program: Supportive Services for Veteran Families | 815 Burke Avenue, Bronx, NY 10467 What You’ll DoIf you’re a Paralegal and you want to help Veterans and Veteran Families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, then you could be a great Paralegal/Legal Assistant with our Supportive Services for Veteran Families program (SSVF). You’ll collaborate with the SSVF team and our legal services provider to address legal issues that interfere with a Veteran’s ability to obtain or retain permanent housing and supportive services including eviction, landlord/tenant issues, child support, military discharge upgrade, debt collection, and others. Your responsibilities will include:Conducting in-person, telephone, or virtual intake to assess legal requests and obtain documentation.Providing advice and brief services to clients seeking assistance with housing, tenant rights, benefits, etc.Entering data in HMIS and case file maintenance.Conducting field visits as needed to conduct assessment or case follow-up.Coordinating client service and advocacy with legal services subcontractor.Tracking external referrals and client outcomes.Engaging and building networks with legal stakeholders and community partners.You’re a great fit for this role if you have:Paralegal certification from an ABA-accredited paralegal program plus Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.Knowledge of and/or experience working with low income, homeless, and Veteran populations.Knowledge of community resources including social services, housing, financial assistance, etc. and the ability to coordinate and work well with community partners and organizations.Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.It would be helpful (but not required) if you have:Bilingual fluency (Spanish/English).
