The RN Specialist Trainer will be responsible for providing specialized training, such as AMAP (Approved Medication Administration Personnel) training and other relevant trainings, in various formats including classroom instruction, hands-on workshops, and online modules. This role involves educating and training caregivers on medication administration, care skills, health promotion, and safety measures to ensure high-quality care delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse will:

• Travel to and work at various sites in Queens, Brooklyn, or Staten Island.
• Develop specialized training programs, including AMAP refresher training, Infection control protocols, and other relevant topics, based on organizational needs and regulatory requirements.
• Deliver training sessions using a variety of formats, including classroom instruction, hands-on workshops, and online modules, ensuring content is accessible and comprehensible to participants.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure training content is aligned with best practices, evidence-based guidelines, and organizational policies.
• Provide ongoing education and support to caregivers on care skills, including but not limited to medication administration, wound care, vital sign monitoring, and mobility assistance.
• Incorporate health promotion and safety measures into training curriculum to promote wellness and prevent accidents or injuries.
• Assess training effectiveness through evaluations, feedback mechanisms, and performance assessments, making adjustments as needed to improve outcomes.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for caregivers, offering guidance, support, and additional training opportunities as needed to enhance their skills and knowledge.
• Stay current on industry trends, advancements in healthcare technology, and regulatory changes to ensure training content remains up-to-date and relevant.
• Maintain accurate records of training activities, participant attendance, and program outcomes for reporting and documentation purposes.
• Provide in-service training and oversight in areas such as:
  • Bowel Movement Monitoring
  • Diabetes Care
  • Skin Integrity and Wound Care
  • MARS/Medication Errors
  • Head Trauma
  • G-tube Care
  • Epi-pen Administration
  • Medical Equipment Maintenance
  • Any other pertinent medical conditions or issues
• Complete all written reports and documentation to maintain compliance with agency, state, and federal regulations for residential facilities.
• Report all incidents, including allegations of abuse and neglect, and serious reportable incidents, to management immediately upon discovery.
• Advocate appropriately and professionally on behalf of all individuals.
• Serve as a role model, abide by agency dress code, and conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
• Remain sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of individuals and program staff.
• Represent HeartShare, both within and outside the organization, in a manner that promotes the Mission, Vision, and Values of the agency. Personally adhere to all agency policies and procedures.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

• Current license and registration as Registered Nurse approved by the NYS Department of Education.
• One year nursing experience as well as experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities highly desirable.
• American Heart Association issued BLS Certificate
