Job title Health Information Management Specialist I
Reports to Director of Compliance
Status Non-Exempt (Hourly): $16.50-$19.50
Job purpose
To ensure proper processing of all medical records in and out of the health center. Participates in maintenance of medical records and medical record quality activities.
Duties and responsibilities
· Receive and assign all incoming medical records from in-house and outside facilities
· Ensure records are scanned into the patient’s chart and assigned to the provider
· Accurately maintain, sort and scan large volume medical documents into EMR
· Performs follow up on missing records or documents.
· Promptly scans paper documents identified as critical
· Confirms accuracy and completeness of all patient and document information throughout the document imaging process in order to ensure quality of all patient information in EMR.
· Recognizes documentation errors or concerns and routes to lead for follow up
· Maintain Internal efax documents and assign to appropriate staff
· Performing routine chart processing activities, including searching, pulling, and filing of medical records for patient care
· Adheres to documented and established workflow guidelines as it relates to health Information
· Prioritizes and actively manages the various documents in a timely and effective manner.
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Medical terminology background preferred
· Medical record experience preferred
· Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, such as Microsoft Word and Excel
· Ability to learn an Electronic Health Record software
· Attention to detail
· Complete work with minimal supervision
· Ability to meet strict deadlines

· Must be able to function in a high stress environment
· Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people
· Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
Physical requirements
· Required to spend long hours on the computer entering various forms of data which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
· Required to spend long hours in intense concentration
· Required to spend hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain
· Required to read, write and speak English
· Requires sufficient hearing level to be able to effectively communicate with people directly or by telephone
· Occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds
Details
· Full time job that averages 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday as scheduled
o Hours are generally between 8am-5pm as scheduled and may be altered by supervisor as needed
