The Medical Assistant with Sterile Procedure Scrubbing Ability is a crucial member of the healthcare team, responsible for supporting medical professionals in both administrative and clinical capacities. This role involves not only typical medical assistant duties but also includes the ability to scrub in for sterile procedures, ensuring a safe and sterile environment during medical interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Perform vital sign measurements, record patient history, and update medical records accurately.
  • Administer injections, medications, and immunizations under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
  • Prepare patients for sterile procedures and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques.
Sterile Procedure Scrubbing:
  • Scrub in for sterile procedures, maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Prepare and organize sterile equipment and instruments before procedures.
  • Assist in draping and maintaining a sterile field throughout the surgical or procedural process.
  • Hand instruments to the healthcare provider during procedures while anticipating their needs.
Patient Education:
  • Educate patients on procedures, medications, and post-operative care.
  • Provide clear instructions on pre-operative and post-operative guidelines.
Administrative Duties:
  • Schedule patient appointments, coordinate referrals, and manage medical records.
  • Verify patient information, insurance details, and update electronic health records.
  • Answer phone calls, address patient inquiries, and provide excellent customer service.
Equipment and Inventory Management:
  • Maintain and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of medical supplies, ensuring an adequate stock.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new medical assistants or staff members.
Compliance and Safety:
  • Adhere to healthcare regulations, protocols, and safety standards.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Certification or diploma in Medical Assisting.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, with a focus on sterile procedure scrubbing.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control practices, and sterile techniques.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records and medical office software.
