Key Position Specific Roles and Responsibilities

Directs and supervises the activities of all professional and nonprofessional nursing personnel, recommending nursing care services.
Establishes objectives for the department of nursing and the organizational structure for achieving these objectives.
Interprets and puts into effect administrative policies.
Directs and delegates management of professional and ancillary nursing personnel.
Plans and conducts conferences and discussions with administrative and professional nursingstaff to encourage participation in formulating departmental policies and procedures,promotes initiative, solves problems and interprets new policies and procedures to meet allstate and federal regulatory requirements.
Coordinates activities of various nursing units, promoting and maintaining harmoniousrelationships among nursing personnel and with allied services, medical staff, members andfamilies.
Advises personnel on specified care concerns and implements systems to improve quality ofcare.
Plans and outlines general nursing procedures to be observed by professional andnonprofessional nursing personnel.
Works to ensure adequate training and continuing education programs for the nursingdepartment.
Keeps records and prepares reports of nursing educational activities with a view towardemployee development.
Keeps abreast of professional developments in the field by outside reading, attendingconferences and training sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Education
    o Baccalaureate or Associate degree in nursing (RN) and Master’s preparation in related field desired.
  • Experience
    o Two years of experience in long-term care and management, preferred.
    o Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations in relation to long-term care.
    o Demonstrated knowledge of ANA Standards of Nursing Practice, gerontology nursing practice, and code for nurses.
    o Knowledgeable of community resources and health care agencies.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    o Must have and maintain an active R.N. license / registration in good standing on the state registry.
    o Certified geriatric nurse or nurse administrator by ANA, preferred
    o Complete continued education courses or attend seminars relating to the nursing profession.
  • Availability & Attendance
    o Flexible work schedule (mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.) which may include hours beyond eight hours in a day, or 40 hours in a week.
    o Follows all attendance policies and procedures, including punctuality and proper timesheet usage.
    o On call 24/7 for the community.

    o Compliance with infectious disease policies and procedures related to, but not limited to tuberculosis screening of health-care workers
