Hawaii State Judiciary is Hiring a Social Service Assistant IV (Female) Near Honolulu, HI

Position Specific Description

Recruitment Number 24-029TY, Social Service Assistant IV (Female), SR-11, Honolulu, O`ahu.

Note: This position requires the incumbent to be of the same gender (female) as that of the clients being served.

Summary of Duties

Performs extensive field work and out-reach functions; serves as liaison between professional staff and clients, and/or potential clients; performs preliminary screening for continued eligibility; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education Requirement: Graduation from high school. Experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for lack of high school education.

Specialized Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in such programs as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; e.g., performing clerical tasks in processing various documents, transporting clients and materials to and from various destinations, explaining to clients or tenants the services available, assisting in overseeing group activities such as bowling and swimming.

Substitutions Allowed:

1. Education in an accredited university in a baccalaureate program may be substituted for experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six (6) months of experience, up to a maximum of three (3) years.

2. Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college which resulted in a Certificate of Achievement or Associate of Science or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Selective Certification Requirement: For certain positions, applicants must possess a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement (28 CFR 115.17, 115.117, 115.217 and 115.317): For some positions, applicants may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities.

In accordance with the Federal PREA Law, the Hawai`i State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities who:

a. Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution;
b. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse;
c. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; or
d. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
