CHILDREN’S CASE MANAGER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Full-time 40 hrs. per week - Sunday-Thursday 12pm-8pm
Summary: Provide directly and/or ensure provision of all services to our clients who are domestic violence child witnesses/victims. (The children’s case manager works with children in areas of focus relating safety, personal boundaries, healthy recreation, healthy ways to relate with others, how to appropriately express thoughts and feelings.)
Specific job duties and responsibilities: Following agency protocol as detailed in Haven House’s written policies and procedures and specified by funding sources:
-Draft Service Plans and Safety Plans for Haven House’s child clients, coordinating with the children’s parent and with other staff who work with adult clients.
-Facilitate school enrollment of all children living in shelter
-Work with individual children as determined appropriate through service plans.
-Provide care or do age-appropriate activities with children while their parent (who are shelter residents) go to goal-related appointments
-Facilitate age-appropriate groups for children relating to safety, personal boundaries, healthy recreation, healthy ways to relate with others, how to appropriately express thoughts and feelings, etc.
-Provide information and education to teens about teen dating violence
- Plan and facilitate (including proper staffing of) group activities involving child clients
-On-site activities for children who (a) live in shelter with their parent or (b) attend groups held concurrently and on-site with adult DV support groups in the community
-Create and maintain children’s files and ensure timely and accurate documentation of services
-Educational/recreational group outings for children (and moms, plus others in shelter). Examples include zoo, children’s museums, family movies, swimming, nature walks, Balloon Fiesta, library, etc. May make community contacts and requests, in order to obtain free or reduced-cost admissions
-Assist with providing community education relating to children’s services and/or teen dating violence as directed by Executive Director
-Will be cross-trained to assist front-desk staff, thus providing basic crisis intervention or case management services, and/or to occasionally transport clients.
-Other duties as assigned. (Many Haven House staff members are cross-trained and some may be assigned other duties as appropriate for individual skills and interests or to meet the needs of our clients and our organization.)
Minimum Staff Requirements and Qualifications:
1. Ability to work effectively in a multi-task, crisis-oriented environment
2. Ability to perform work activities requiring effective listening, negotiating, instruction and/or speaking with others
3. Ability to relate to coworkers, peers, residents and others in a positive and professional manner
4. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
5. Must have training regarding cultural awareness relevant to populations being served
6. Satisfactory clearance of criminal background check. TB test with negative outcome
7. Current certification in CPR and First Aid
College degree in human services related field or High School Diploma/GED and provider-specific crisis intervention training. Must be 18 years of age or older. An initial 40-hour DV specific training through the two CYFD approved training entities and/or Victim Advocacy Training (VAT) as approve by VOCA. Twenty (20) hours minimum of ongoing training per year related to target population, crisis management, crisis intervention policies and procedures, and community resources is required. Individuals answering telephones must be trained to screen for domestic violence. Current Valid NM Driver’s License.
