Through its core values of innovation, engagement, and health equity, HCPH strives to bring meaningful solutions to public health issues while keeping Harris County healthy and vibrant.Position Overview:Under moderate supervision, the Perinatal Hepatitis B RN will collaborate with a diverse team including epidemiologists, Public Health Nurses (PHN), and Program Managers within the Immunization Program to coordinate and enhance the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program. Individuals in this role will be responsible for training, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and thorough program evaluation for effective perinatal hepatitis B prevention and management. A key component of this position is working closely with birthing hospitals to develop robust policies and procedures for perinatal hepatitis B prevention, as well as overseeing comprehensive HBV case management. Major areas of responsibility include tracking and monitoring perinatal hepatitis B cases in Harris County, conducting detailed pregnancy investigations, and coordinating care to ensure that all prevention protocols are meticulously followed, including ensuring that HBV-exposed infants complete the Hepatitis B vaccine series and receive post-vaccination serologic testing.The Perinatal Hepatitis B RN is expected to demonstrate proficiency in infection control practices, possess strong communication skills to educate patients about Hepatitis B transmission and prevention, and exhibit expertise in coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes for both mothers and newborns.Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Case Management & Oversight: Diligently tracks and monitors perinatal hepatitis B cases in Harris County, ensuring all cases are accurately identified and documented. Performs comprehensive case management for perinatal hepatitis B, including detailed pregnancy investigations and care coordination. Also, oversees HBV case management, ensuring HBV-exposed infants complete the Hepatitis B vaccine series and receive post-vaccination serologic testing.
  • Policy Development with Birthing Hospitals: Collaborate with birthing hospitals to develop and strengthen policies and procedures for perinatal hepatitis B prevention.
  • Training and Policy Implementation: Develop and conduct training for healthcare providers and staff on perinatal hepatitis B prevention and the latest protocols.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Foster relationships and collaborate with epidemiologists, Public Health Nurses, and program managers within the Immunization Program to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Program Evaluation and Improvement: Evaluate program outcomes, recommend improvements, and implement changes to optimize perinatal hepatitis B prevention strategies.
  • Community Education and Liaison Activities: Educate the community about perinatal hepatitis B prevention and serve as a liaison to relevant organizations, including the CDC's Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program.

Education/Licenses/Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Texas by the Texas Board of Nursing or a multistate license issued by the current state of residence that allows for nursing practice within Texas.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
Experience:
  • At least four (4) years of experience in nursing, with a focus on public health, immunization, or infectious diseases.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to multi-task and adjust priorities as needed

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Monday to Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Must be willing to flex work hours when required, including weekends.
  • Able to travel within Harris County as needed.
