Harris County ESD 11 is Hiring a Maintenance Specialist Near Spring, TX

POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Maintenance Specialist I is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of Harris County ESD #11 Mobile Healthcare facilities and other duties as assigned. HCESD 11 Operations Support Team provides a safe, clean, well-maintained, and attractive workplace for its employees and visitors.
SPECIAL NOTE:
This job has been designated as a Safety Sensitive Position by HCESD11. Public safety, as well as the safety of HCESD11 employees, requires that the employee in this position be able to always perform all essential functions at the highest levels. Therefore, this position is subject to frequent drug testing and requires reporting of all employee use of High-Risk Medications identified by HCESD11 and certification from the employee’s physician that such medications can be safely used while working. Because HCESD11 ’s ability to deliver emergency medical response depends on having a workforce that can be reliably scheduled, this job also requires regular and reliable attendance. This is a high-stress job that requires focus, engagement, and high performance in traumatic, physically demanding, emotionally charged, and life-threatening situations. The position involves exposure to serious and graphic injury to adults and children, including death and dismemberment. A high level of physical, mental, and emotional health is an essential requirement.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS: 
  • Adheres to all agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate physical and mental health required to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Reporting on time and regularly working scheduled shifts to not compromise the delivery of emergency medical care.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance schedules, basic mechanical process, performing minor fleet repairs and pre-tripping of the fleet as needed.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • On-call and overtime work as required or assigned. (This may include being called in for weather events, and/or community and natural disasters)
  • Performing the Physical Requirements listed below.
  • Adherence to STARCARE values in all interactions.
  • Take an active role to ensure gossip and hearsay are not perpetuated.
  • Professionally represent HCESD11 at all times.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HCESD11 facilities and equipment. 
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and diagnose problems with building systems including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, garage doors, alarms and monitoring, septic, security, and other complex systems in HCESD11 facilities.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies. 
  • Performs duties according to internal Safety SOGs and external safety rules, regulations, and best practices in the performance of duties.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of materials, labor, and other expenditures on each assignment. Participate in site walkthroughs as needed to examine the appearance and safety of the buildings; ensure that all environments are clean, welcoming, and free of barriers. 
  • Maintain service records, bulletins, and data on all equipment assigned. 
  • Recognizes and reports any unsafe or unsatisfactory work to the Maintenance Specialist II.
  • Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasionally: Extreme heat and cold, wet and/or humid conditions, vibration, pressurized equipment, burning materials, moving objects, high places, fumes/odors/mists, gases, toxic conditions
  • Frequently: Extended days, inside, outside, temperature changes, mechanical & electrical equipment, confined areas, noise, dirt/dust, other hazardous conditions
  • Constantly: Work with and around others, face to face and verbal contact with others, shift work 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with 1-5 years of relative experience
  • Required NIMS training and/or other internal HCESD11 training. 
  • Valid TX Driver’s License and ability to operate large vehicles (ambulance) if necessary up to pulling an attached trailer. 
  • Must not have been excluded by the OIG to participate in Federally Funded Health Care Programs
