HARMONY HOUSE is Hiring a Youth Advocate Near Huntington, WV

General Description of Duties and Responsibilities

· Operate as a member of The Center and Harmony House teams, striving to always provide quality services to youth, especially those experiencing serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders

· Alongside other staff members, coordinate regularly scheduled group activities for clients

· Work with clients on social problem-solving skills and life skills

· Help build clients' communication skills so that they can assertively self-advocate

· Assist with planning and running of community events

· Develop and maintain relationships with community partners.

· Complete daily documentation of services

· Transport youth and help advocate during appointments

· Provide services that are based upon the strengths, needs, preferences, and abilities of The Center participants

· Assisting clients in time of need with advocacy and support

· Engage and register visitors to the drop-in center in a way that cultivates a warm environment

· Work as a member of the youth support team to provide input on client needs

· Communicate emergent client issues with team members and other members of the Harmony House staff to best meet the needs of clients

· Advocacy as needed and deemed appropriate to ensure quality service delivery

· Engage in outreach services as assigned

· Attend weekly staff meetings

· Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors

Qualification for Position

High school diploma or GED; Lived experience preferred, but not required.

Supervisory Relationships: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

Skills and Knowledge Required

Knowledge of services available in our COC, as well as community resources; General knowledge of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate appropriate referrals to those seeking help; Knowledge and skill to teach basic problem-solving strategies to support individual participants to self-directed recovery.

Personal Qualities

Should possess a high level of understanding for individuals who present for services with multiple case management, mental health, and substance abuse needs; Focuses on solving conflicts, not blaming; Maintains confidentiality; Practices active listening skills

Amount of Travel: Local travel required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
