What You'll Be Doing

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Assisting the project management team in developing proposals, estimates and project schedules. 
• Assisting in developing client proposals and presentations as requested. 
• Developing well written assessments addressing code implications and basis of designs in the development of HVAC systems. 
• Designing HVAC systems and assuring project compliance with codes and standards. 
• Utilizing design software to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Performing HVAC design calculations to support equipment selections such as fans, air handling units, heat exchangers, chillers, etc. 
• Completing size and design ductwork and piping (chilled water, heating hot water, etc.) distribution.
• Evaluating and assessing exisiting HVAC system(s).
• Preparing engineering studies and schematic designs for new HVAC/Utilities. 
• Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of estimate being performed on a project.
• Performing fieldwork necessary to gather field data and provide construction support.
• Coordinating design with other disciplines, attending design coordination meetings with team members and client representatives. 
• Reviewing shop drawings, recording changes and communicating directly with suppliers, contractors and client representatives as required.
• Performing on-site inspections during construction and coordinating design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers. 

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires 6 to 10 years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering, specifically with building mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection).

Generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of engineering assignments including, but not limited to, Building Mechanical Systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection) for building projects from concept through construction. This work will be performed under general supervision.

• Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, IMC, IECC, and NFPA.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Proficient with calculation software and equipment selection programs. 
• Knowledge of Plumbing and Fire Protection is a plus. 
• Ability to lead a small team and deliver on commitments. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. PowerPoint experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.
