School Description Independence Charter Middle School stands as a trailblazer in Oklahoma as the states first public charter school. Our vibrant community has up to 440 students hailing from over 40 elementary schools across the metro area. Position Description Independence Charter Middle School (ICMS) is currently accepting applications for middle school English teachers for the 2024-2025 school year.
At ICMS, our students engage in Honors English coursework each year, equipping them with the content and skills essential for success at Harding Charter Prep. Our student body at ICMS encompasses a diverse range of skill levels, and our dedicated teachers incorporate remediation strategies into their lessons while adhering to grade-level state standards. Recognizing the importance of ongoing professional development, ICMS teachers benefit from an hour and a half of protected Professional Learning Community (PLC) time every Monday morning. This dedicated time allows teachers to collaboratively review student data, enhance instructional practices, and continually improve student learning outcomes.
We are actively seeking individuals who are not only passionate educators but also committed leaders within the dynamic ICMS staff. Education & Experience Candidates must possess at least a bachelors degree. Experience and teaching certification are preferred. However, educators new to the profession who possess the right knowledge and disposition will be considered. Classroom Environment: Create a classroom environment that *allows the teacher and students feel valued and respected *fosters learning *uses effective classroom management techniques to maximize learning *is responsive, effective, respectful, and consistent to student misbehavior *is safe and accessible to all students, including those with special needs Instruction: When teaching *clearly communicate goals, learning expectations, and directions and procedures *use effective pedagogy techniques (like authentic problem-solving and social construction) to promote student voice *use questioning and discussion techniques to ensure that all voices are heard *engage students in their learning *be flexible and adjust lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners *implement AVID teaching and WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading) strategies into instruction Assessment: Utilize effective assessment practices like *creating formative and summative lessons that assess lesson objectives *monitoring student progress and responding with appropriate interventions *collecting and tracking student data to determine learning gaps and student need *providing timely, goal-reference, actionable and consistent feedback to students Professional Responsibilities: As a professional, continue to *reflect on teaching practices *communicate with students and families *participate in continued professional learning *engage in professional communities *act with professionalism *uphold the schools policies and procedures, especially those regarding child abuse, harassment, sexual harassment, and assault
