Harbor HR LLC is Hiring a Construction Controller Near San Francisco, CA

McMillan Data Communications is looking for a Construction Controller to lead the accounting team and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial operations. The position will oversee the monthly financial reporting process, manage accounts receivable, lead the WIP process, and continuously improve our financial systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead the accounting team. Hire, manage and develop team members; cross-train team members and document processes for continuity in case of staff turnover; manage and/or collaborate with outside partners (bank, CPA, attorney, surety, insurance, 401K TPA, offshore data entry firm, fractional CFO, etc.).
  • Deliver accurate, timely monthly financial reports. Close the books in accordance with GAAP; prepare internal financial statements and analytical reports (e.g. KPIs); confirm validity of reports for data analysis; prepare monthly financial package for owners; collaborate with CPA on annual tax returns and reviewed financial statements.
  • Lead the Accounts Receivable (A/R) process to get paid by customers in a timely manner. From precon risk identification to contract terms review; from job set up to SOV, service order and T&M billing; from routine collections follow up to escalation; through final receipt of funds.
  • Lead the monthly WIP process. Ensure accurate job costing, draft WIP, review WIP with project managers, make adjustments, and report on gain/fade drivers to improve job profit and cash flow.

The Controller provides responsible stewardship of and continuous improvement in all aspects of the company’s financial systems

Position Requirements:

  • Professional demeanor and strong customer service (internal and external) skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving
  • Maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct
  • Pivot between leading, delegating, managing, collaborating and “roll up your sleeves” / “doing”

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong accounting skills (debits and credits, financial statements, monthly close, WIP, etc.
  • Excellent management, supervisory, and collaboration skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, for both short-term tasks and long-term projects; meet strict deadlines with precision

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field required
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in construction accounting; self-perform specialty trade experience required; union and/or prevailing wage a plus
  • Experience with a construction-specific ERP essential; Vista by Viewpoint a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and ability to learn/use other software programs
