The Hamilton County Health Department has a responsibility to respond quickly and efficiently when public health emergencies occur. All Hamilton County Health Department employees are responsible for ensuring their contact information is current and they are accessible should a public health emergency arise. The Hamilton County Health Department maintains a call down system to store contact information and mobilize staff in the event of an emergency. During a public health emergency, all staff are required to respond should a call to mobilize be made. During a public health emergency, work hours for any and all Hamilton County Health Department employees are subject to modification to meet the needs of the community.
Under general supervision, provides language interpretation and translation services between clients.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education or experience equivalent to graduation from High School plus a minimum of three (3) years as a medical interpreter or equivalent professional interpreting experience. One (1) year of which must include direct work experience in a leadership or supervisory role. Must be fluent in both English and Spanish. A valid driver’s license is required.
Must be able to complete an interpreter assessment with a passing score of 80 or above.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must speak English and Spanish clearly.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Cultural Studies, Sociology, or a social service related field. A Medical Interpretation Certification or another language in addition to Spanish, including American Sign Language, preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires limited physical effort primarily involving intermittent sitting, standing and walking; and moderate computer keyboarding. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate verbally with clients and staff.
