Job Summary:
This Attorney will play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the legal and compliance aspects of Halff’s contracts and transactions. This position requires a meticulous and detail-oriented professional with a strong legal background, specializing in contract law, with a preference toward experience in the professional services arena (consulting engineering, land surveying, architecture, and construction). The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing legal guidance in line with Halff’s culture and risk tolerance to foster successful business relationships.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and draft a variety of contracts, including professional services agreement with clients, vendor contracts, and subcontractor agreements in line with Halff’s risk tolerance and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external parties to negotiate favorable terms and conditions, balancing legal requirements with business objectives.
  • Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive advice to mitigate such risks, ensuring that contracts align with the firm's risk tolerance and policies.
  • Stay current with relevant laws and regulations impacting professional services firms in general and more specifically the engineering consulting industry, providing insights and recommendations to the business units.
  • Manage and resolve contract disputes, collaborating with internal teams and external parties to find efficient and equitable solutions.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with legal and contractual obligations, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all contracts, amendments, and legal communications.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of contract law, with a focus on engineering and similar and related professional consulting services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex legal concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to achieve favorable outcomes for the firm.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to assess legal risks and provide strategic advice.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal software and tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, providing legal support and guidance.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in contract review, drafting, and management.
  • Effective and efficient time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the regulatory landscape impacting professional services consulting, including engineering, environmental, surveying, right-of-way acquisition, GIS, related services.
Education, Experience and Licensure:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 2-7 years of experience practicing contract law, preferably in the engineering or consulting industry.
  • Active license to practice law in Texas, Florida, Oklahoma and/or Louisiana.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • May need to travel to various office locations.
