Job Summary
The Steel Buyer will play a crucial role in optimizing and managing the procurement processes specifically related to stainless and aluminum products. This includes analyzing steel market trends, negotiating with steel suppliers and ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of steel products. This role will also play a crucial role in analyzing and helping manage all inventory, specifically focusing on dead and/or obsolete stock. This involves identifying slow-moving or obsolete inventory items, implementing strategies to minimize dead stock (such as negotiating favorable return policies with our vendors), as well as optimizing inventory turnover. Responsibilities
Conduct in-depth analysis of the steel market, including pricing trends, availability, and supplier performance.
Collaborate with the procurement team to develop and implement strategic sourcing initiatives for stainless and aluminum products.
Negotiate contracts with steel suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions.
Generate Purchase Orders for stainless and aluminum steel products based on stock level requirements and business needs
Ensure cost is current and accurate for the stainless and aluminum products
Monitor steel supplier performance and address any issues or discrepancies.
Work closely with branches and Procurement Team to understand steel requirements and ensure timely procurement.
Analyze inventory levels of steel materials to minimize excess and shortage situations (suggestions of min max levels to the purchasing & inventory control manager).
Stay informed about developments in the steel industry, including technological advancements and regulatory changes.
Generate reports on key steel procurement metrics to support decision-making processes as needed.
Analyze inventory data to identify slow-moving, excess, or obsolete stock items.
Develop and implement strategies to help reduce dead stock and improve inventory turnover.
Collaborate with the procurement team to optimize purchasing decisions and prevent overstock situations.
Work closely with sales and marketing teams to identify opportunities for promotions or discounts on slow-moving items (6 month returns, adding to clearance on website).
Monitor product lifecycle and recommend adjustments to inventory levels based on usage.
Implement inventory control measures to prevent dead stock accumulation.
Conduct regular audits and assessments of inventory to identify potential dead stock items.
Generate reports on dead stock metrics and provide insights for decision-making as needed.
Maintain existing customer specific price pages
Create new customer specific price pages upon request
Performs other related duties as assigned.
