The Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake is a federally-recognized native sovereign nation. Our primary purposes relate to the overall wellbeing of our Tribal Members and our families. We have active programs and relationships with our Pomo tribal neighbors in Lake County California that will help us preserve our Pomo culture. Many of these activities help us rediscover lost traditions, spiritual beliefs and help revive our dying languages. Because we know that the world is a different place than when our ancestors were here, our Tribe works very hard to learn different ways of achieving economic self-sufficiency. Purpose of the Position
The Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistant II position reports to the Health and Human Services Administrator. This position will operate within a licensed and regulated facility as established by the Tribe and will focus on safety, well-being, curriculum, and provide a routine environment for young children to thrive. The Generations Center implements a dynamic, play-based curriculum that incorporates artistic and practical activities into the daily schedule. The Early Childhood Education Teacher Assistant will assist and support teaching staff in assigned classrooms with a schedule assigned based on the needs of the program upon hire.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for following all licensing regulations, policies and procedures, and any other educational requirements as applicable.
  • May supervise individual and small group activities for children as assigned.
  • Provide a pleasant, safe, and clean environment for children and staff.
  • Follow developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for children.
  • Assist in providing childcare for parent activities when needed.
  • Responsible for observation and recordkeeping, when necessary, of assigned children.
  • Meet the individual needs and interests of children in relation to their cultural, social, and economic background.
  • Participate in the daily cleaning of the classroom, facility, and play yard areas (i.e., sweeping, mopping floors, sanitizing bathrooms, etc.).
  • Responsible for staying informed of future changes to position qualification requirements and maintaining a current professional development plan with assistance from supervising staff to prepare for upcoming position qualification requirements changes.
  • Attend scheduled meetings, training, and conferences as necessary.
  • Participate in regular reflective supervision sessions and self-assessments to promote ongoing professional development.
  • Report all concerns, observations, or information provided by a parent or guardian in a timely manner.
  • Align work behaviors in conformance with Generations’ Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Participate in fire and earthquake drills.
  • Occasional interaction and contact with outside agencies, vendors, funders, volunteers, donors, and contributors. 
  • May be required to escort or drive students under special or urgent circumstances.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to Tribal history, lifestyle, and culture.
  • Meet established attendance requirements.
  • Travel as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Required:

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED).
  • PLUS six completed units of early childhood education. 
  • All offers are contingent upon signing a confidentiality agreement and satisfactory completion of drug screening and background checks, including a LiveScan fingerprints check. Employer observes federal standards for controlled substances.
  • Required to possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Tribe’s insurance carrier.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with children with special needs is highly preferred.

Certificates And Licenses

  • Must maintain a current Infant and Child C.P.R. First Aid certification or ability to complete these requirements within three months of being hired.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Verbal communication sufficient to exchange accurate ideas and information.
  • Able to handle or feel objects, utilize manual and automatic office equipment.
  • Able to stand, bend, reach down and stretch overhead, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Frequently move, transport, and manipulate equipment and items up to 35 pounds.
  • May lift or hold infants and occasionally children up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Safely use kitchen equipment and implements that can be heavy, hot, or sharp, as well as cleaning and sanitizing products.
  • Able to complete job tasks in an environment that can be noisy and includes the comings and goings of small children and their families.
  • Complete a Successful Tuberculosis (T.B.)
  • Must comply with regulatory immunization requirements.

Native American Indian preference shall apply to the position in accordance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. § 2000e-2(i)), regulations of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (41 C.F.R. § 60-1.5(a)(7)), and/or other relevant laws.
