Description

Purpose of the Position: An Early Childhood Education Manager reports to the Health and Human Services Administrator and provides safe, stimulating environments where young children can thrive. Doing the job right requires vision, expertise, and a commitment to helping children in the opening stages of their development. Our Early Childhood Education Manger uses a mix of approaches to supervise and motivate teachers and other staff who nurture the learning abilities of the children in the care. All offers are contingent upon signing a confidentiality agreement and satisfactory completion of drug screening and background check, including fingerprints.

Essential Duties

  • Ensure teachers and assistants are appropriately screened, educated, and well-trained, and provide the children with developmentally appropriate education, care and supervision.
  • Work with teachers to create and implement a curriculum and activities that are developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive.
  • Provide training and professional development for staff members.
  • Responsible for all communication between parents, teachers, and the community.
  • Help plan and facilitate family and community events.
  • Confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities and policies and students' behavioral or learning problems.
  • Ensuring the physical environment of the facility is in good condition and is in compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
  • Be the face of the childcare center and promote its image and reputation in the community.
  • Motivate and mentor team members to grow their skills and careers by creating a nurturing environment that encourages innovation and continual learning.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to Tribal history, lifestyle, and culture.
  • Meet established attendance requirements.
  • In-person attendance and travel as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • An Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Human Development with 24 units of Child Development/Early Childhood Education is required
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Human Development with 24 units of Child Development/Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in childcare or a related field.

Skills and Ability

  • Desire to influence the lives of young children in a meaningful way.
  • Balance play and academics. Ensure the center provides purposeful play opportunities in order to achieve mastery of state/federal/program standards.
  • Ability to write articles, manuals, and other publications and assist in the distribution of promotional literature about programs and facilities.
  • Be mindful of each child's unique talents and craft personalized, hands-on learning opportunities that spark natural curiosity.
  • All offers are contingent upon signing a confidentiality agreement and satisfactory completion of drug screening and background check.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods in a stationary seated position, such as working on a computer.
  • Frequently move, transport, and manipulate computer equipment up to 15 pounds.
  • Verbal communication sufficient to exchange accurate ideas and information.
  • In-person attendance and travel as requested.
  • Must comply with regulatory immunization requirements.

Indian Preference

Native American Indian preference shall apply to the position in accordance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. 2000e-2(i)), regulations of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (41 C.F.R. 60-1.5(a)(7)), and/or other relevant laws. Drug Screening

Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake requires the successful completion of a drug screening. The Tribe recognizes the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana; however, as an independent sovereign, the Tribe maintains a prohibition of marijuana use by its employees. Marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for T.H.C. The Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake strictly enforces its drug and alcohol policy, and all employees are required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing. Employees may be selected for alcohol and/or drug testing upon reasonable suspicion or accident.

Background Check

Candidates must submit and will be subject to criminal background and reference checks, which may include fingerprinting. Verification of previous employment and education will be conducted after the interview if a conditional offer of employment is being considered.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is an absolute requirement for this position, and violation of confidentiality standards may be cause for immediate termination if not followed to the highest standards. Given the nature of some positions, violations of confidentiality may also violate applicable federal health privacy laws.
