Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, mobilize, and lead a team of bridge inspectors and engineers.

  • Conduct routine and special inspections of existing bridges and structures to assess their condition, identify defects, and recommend necessary repairs or maintenance.

  • Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings, recommendations, and corrective actions required.

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all inspections are conducted in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.

  • IDOT Team Leader with Element and Fracture Critical certification strongly preferred or have adequate qualifications to obtain Team Lead certification in near future.

  • Licensed PE in the state of Illinois or the ability obtain a license in the near future.

  • Familiarity with initial, routine, in-depth, element level, and fracture critical inspections of various bridge and structure types.

  • Completion of “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges” course (FHWA-NHI-130055) preferred.

  • Completion of “Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges” course (FHWA-NHI-130078) preferred.

  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations related to bridge inspection, safety, and access.

  • Experience operating bridge inspection access equipment and tools.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Must be willing to travel and work in outdoor environments.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation and Microsoft Office.

Work Environment
