SUMMARY

  1. J. Russell is seeking a Resident Engineer to oversee the engineering and construction activities on project sites in Russell’s Atlanta office and support the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Centralized Project Management Office (CMPO). This role is integral to ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed as planned, meeting our stringent standards, and complying with all regulatory requirements. The Resident Engineer will serve as the primary technical point of contact on-site, coordinating between the project team, contractors, and stakeholders to support MARTA’s pursuit of rehabilitating, enhancing, and expanding its $6B Capital Improvement Program.

As a Resident Engineer, you will ensure that project goals are met, oversee the daily operations on the construction site, and ensure that construction adheres to the engineering plans, specifications, and safety regulations. Your role is critical in minimizing risks, managing on-site engineering staff, and maintaining the flow of communication between the site and project management teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Resident Engineer will be responsible for the following key duties:

  • Onsite Management: Act as the company’s representative at the construction site, interpreting design documents and leading project execution to ensure compliance with all engineering and construction standards.
  • Quality Control and Safety: Monitor construction activities to ensure quality and safety standards are maintained. Conduct regular inspections and initiate corrective actions if necessary.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate the activities of all onsite personnel, including contractors, consultants, and inspectors. Ensure all parties are aware of project timelines and deliverables.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of construction progress, including compliance with all specifications and adjustments made to plans.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve issues that arise on-site promptly to avoid delays or cost overruns. Serve as a mediator to solve conflicts between different stakeholders.
  • Communication and Reporting: Provide regular updates to senior management on project progress and challenges, ensuring transparency and timely decision-making.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or training to obtain a license in the next year
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role overseeing construction projects.
  • Deep understanding of construction processes, materials, and legal regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and navigate construction sites.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure or commercial projects.
  • Certifications related to construction management, safety, or quality assurance.
