GuideOne Insurance is Hiring a GAAP Accounting Director (The Mutual Group) - Hybrid or On-site Opportunity Near Des Moines, IA

The Mutual Group (TMG) is a comprehensive, integrated insurance operations platform dedicated to helping mutual insurance companies. As the GAAP Accounting Director, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of GAAP financial statements and reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including lender requirements. In this role, you will manage the effective execution of annual financial statement audits, ensure proper application of accounting standards to company transactions, maintain effective controls, and oversee accounting procedures for selected accounts.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs accounting policy decisions, working with internal and external stakeholders as subject matter experts, on technical accounting matters.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures; monitor, assess and communicate the effects of proposed accounting standard changes; and spearhead the implementation of new accounting standards and development of relevant accounting policies.
  • Under the oversight and direction of Financial Reporting management, the GAAP Accounting is responsible for the preparation of the monthly financial statements as well as all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Manage the effective execution and completion of annual financial statement audits, ensures proper application of accounting standards to company transactions, and oversees accounting procedures for selected accounts and effective completion of client schedules and audit procedures.
  • Identify process inefficiencies, recommend efficient process alternatives, and facilitate implementation of such process improvements.
  • Provides meaningful analysis of the company’s GAAP financial results to management.
  • Provides ongoing guidance on accounting implications of new products or transactions and works with business line leaders on implementation of changes to accounting policies and procedure. Authors technical accounting memorandums documenting those transactions.
  • Proactively research new (and/or modify) existing accounting pronouncements – to ensure compliance with GAAP & SAP and that all new accounting standards are accurately adopted.
  • Prepare and deliver training programs and other communications to educate the finance department on accounting changes and other relevant topics.
  • Maintain current knowledge of topics arising from the FASB, AICPA, NAIC and all other governing bodies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Eight (8) or more years in progressively responsible and complex Corporate Accounting roles
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced financial analytic ability and attention to numeric and other detail
  • Experience at a global public accounting firm and/or public company desired.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) desired.
  • The successful candidate will initially be hired as an employee of GuideOne Insurance Company and automatically become an employee of TMG on the company's official transition date.
