GuideOne Insurance is Hiring a Director of Finance - Hybrid or On-site Opportunity Near Des Moines, IA

As the Director of Finance, you will be GuideOne’s primary point of contact between GuideOne’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and The Mutual Group (TMG) on all day-to-day finance, accounting, and actuarial operations. In this role, you will be responsible for developing a new business model for the financial operations through the newly formed partnership between TMG and GuideOne.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with The Mutual Group finance team on accounting, actuarial, and other financial decisions needed to develop the GuideOne financial reports.
  • Works with The Mutual Group to develop the annual financial plan and directs financial plan updates and projections on a regular basis throughout the year.
  • Works with GuideOne’s SLT to further develop GuideOne’s strategy and works with The Mutual Group to ensure GuideOne’s strategies are being effectively implemented.
  • Partners with GuideOne’s Risk Management function and The Mutual Group to ensure management reporting to SLT, Board of Directors, rating agencies, and other stakeholders is timely, accurate, and contains all relevant information.
  • Works with GuideOne’s SLT, and The Mutual Group to support business initiatives and strategic projects, providing support and direction on cost-benefit analysis and appropriate financial treatment and impacts.
  • Works with The Mutual Group to gather and analyse qualitative and quantitative information impacting effective financial performance and efficiencies. Provides and supports appropriate financial benchmarking comparisons for competitive analysis and expense improvement efforts.
  • Prepares presentations for the GuideOne Board of Directors, rating agencies and other key relationships.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field of study, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of multifaceted accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of financial planning and analysis concepts, terminology, and techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of Statutory accounting principles and rules.
  • Strong knowledge of P&C actuarial practices and analysis.
  • Mastery of corporate financial measures and key performance indicators.
  • Strong business acumen, preferably in the property and casualty industry.
  • Ability to drive results in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong business partnering, stakeholder and relationship management skills.
  • Strong learning agility and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to synthesise and analyse various forms of information including financial, operational and qualitative and make insightful observations and recommendations for effective financial controls and management.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills including ability to present detailed financial information in a concise and summarized format.
