Job Summary:
  • The Director of Medical Critical Care Services supports the Medical ICU (8 beds) and the Intermediate Medical Care Unit (8 beds). This Director role reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • The Director is accountable for high quality, safe, and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care.
  • This leader will assume responsibility for assisting in assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing practice in each unit.
  • The Director will supervise and evaluate the work activities of all nursing personnel provide clinical leadership and set strategic and long-term goals for the nursing staff.
  • The Director will assess performance objectives for each nursing unit and organize, coordinate, develop, and review policies, procedures, and nursing protocols to meet all regulatory, compliance, and quality care standards.
  • The Director is responsible for the quality of care, and operational and financial efficiency (budgeting) of the nursing unit.
  • The Director will lead and professionally develop the nursing staff within the unit, providing performance goals, feedback, and development opportunities.
  • In addition, the Director will be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and training of personnel and will chair committees as assigned and provide direct care as needed.
  • This role assumes 24/7 responsibility for the Director’s assigned areas.
Essential Functions:
  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Must Haves:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • Current RN license to practice in North Carolina (NC licensure or multi-state compact license.)
  • Minimum five (5) years of RN experience, ICU experience required
