Irrigation Technician- Giants Ridge

We are excited to announce the exceptional career opportunity of Irrigation Technician. While previous experience is preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have a willingness to complete assignment efficiently.

Hours: 40/week. Every other weekend and holiday work is required. Hours may be affected by weather and time of year.

Must be 16 or older to apply and posses a valid Class D drivers license.

JOB SUMMARY

The Irrigation Technician reports directly to the golf course superintendent and assistant golf course superintendent. Responsibilities include equipment operation, irrigation repair and operation, and inspecting golf course conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs preventative maintenance on golf course irrigation systems.
  • Determines wet and dry areas for adjustments of sprinkler heads.
  • Properly inventories and stocks all irrigation parts and tools in order to minimize down time.
  • Maintains working knowledge of pump station maintenance requirements.
  • Operates, maintains and repairs a complex irrigation system, including leaks on distribution lines, valve risers, electrical systems, computers and irrigation control wires.
  • Reports any serious irrigation breaks immediately to the
  • Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent and maintains a daily log of completed repairs.
  • Prioritizes irrigation breaks and uses time efficiently.
  • Conducts monthly checks of all sprinkler heads of the entire golf facility.
  • Routinely inspects irrigation system components to ensure the system is operating properly.
  • Is responsible for winterization and blowout of irrigation system, including all water lines, valve and pump stations.
  • Incorporates safe work practices into job performance.
    Performs other duties as required.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and various types of pumps and pumping systems preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf.
  • Must have a willingness to learn.
  • Must be driven and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral direction.
  • Ability to work to prioritize workload and work on multiple projects at once.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is often required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls.
  • They will occasionally be required to balance, stoop, twist upper body, kneel and climb.
  • They employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color and peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Moderate exposure to extreme cold, heat, working outdoors, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, pollen, dust, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards.
  • Noise level is typically moderate to loud.
  • Ability to work extended hours during golf season including weekends and holidays.
