Contract Duration 13 weeks
Pay rate up to $69.48/Hour
General Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager, the Maternal Child Health Registered Nurse provides direct patient care in accordance with Hospital's policies and procedures and the scope of practice for Registered Nurses in Massachusetts.
Registered Nurse assesses patients' condition, performs treatments, administers medications, observes patients; progress, records responses/reactions to interventions, and evaluates therapies for clinical outcomes and effectiveness.
Collaboratively works with all members of the health care team, the patient and the patient's family/significant other to achieve the expected outcomes.
Provides care and treatment of patients in the home care setting ranging from newborns through adulthood.
Principal Functions:
Exemplifies Hospital's values and Service Excellence standards. Commits to making every encounter with our patients, patients' family, co-workers, physicians and other customers the best that it can be.
Complies with all Hospital policies and the Code of Business Conduct. As required, maintains current license, and tuberculosis testing. Takes responsibility for own safety as well as the safety of patients, patients' family, co-workers, physicians and other customers.
Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care. Assesses the patient using methods such as observation, interview, and review of clinical data; Develops an individualized plan of care based on assessment and collaboration with the Physician in order to achieve desired patient outcomes; Implements the plan of care; and directs licensed and unlicensed caregivers in the implementation of the plan of care.
Provides patient/family education to effect expected clinical outcomes within a diverse age range (newborns through adulthood). Utilizes the results of evidence-based research to improve clinical outcomes.
Maintains competence in phlebotomy.
Reports pertinent patient assessment data, plan of care and response to interventions to Clinical Manager and physicians.
Documents patient care in the medical record.
Participates in interdisciplinary staff meetings. Develops and evaluates the plan of care including the discharge plan. Communicates with other health care team members to resolve operational problems, patient satisfaction and clinical initiatives.
Participates in activities to improve patient care outcomes (i.e. Home Care or Hospital wide committees or activities).
Participates in the following:
Mandatory training requirements as per hospital/unit policies
Continuing education/inservices to enhance knowledge
Staff meetings
Performance improvement initiatives
Orientation of new staff, students, and/or volunteers
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Bachelor's in nursing preferred.
At least two years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
One year in Maternal Child Health area (i.e., Special Care Nursery, Postpartum, Labor and delivery or pediatrics). Home Care experience preferred.
Required License, Certification:
Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
Certification in Maternal Child Health preferred.
Required Life Support Certification:
Basic Life Support is required.
Age-Specific Requirements:
Neonates, Infants, Children, Adolescents, Adults.
Physical, Mental, and Visual Requirements:
Ability to travel to a patient's home.
Ability to lift, carry push, and pull light to moderate loads, such as supplies and equipment used in general office work.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the medical record.
Ability to accurately document the nursing process (assessment, plan, implement, and evaluate).
Ability to use computer.
Osha Exposure:
Job does involve possible exposure to blood, body fluids and tissues.
Reporting Relationship and Supervisory Responsibility:
Reports directly to the Clinical Manager.
Not responsible for supervising the work of others.
