*Revised* ROLE of the POSITION

The Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction (CEEC) Department within the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at UNLV invites applications for a full-time, Assistant /Associate Faculty In-Residence (FIR) in Construction Management (CM) commencing Fall 2024. The CEEC Department offers an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)-accredited BS degree in Civil Engineering and an American Council for Construction Education (ACCE)-accredited BS degree in Construction Management. The Department also offers an MS in Construction and Infrastructure Management (MSCIM), an MS in Engineering - Civil and Environmental Engineering (MSE), and a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The MSCIM degree is for students from various backgrounds, emphasizing the management of construction and transportation infrastructure. Upon hire, the successful applicant is expected to contribute substantially to fulfilling teaching responsibilities in the construction management undergraduate degree program.

Job responsibilities include teaching CM undergraduate courses, including courses in Quantity Surveying and Document Analysis, Construction Engineering Mechanics, Construction Field Inspection, Concrete Design in Construction, Temporary Construction Structures, Steel and Wood Design in Construction and/or other CM courses. The candidate may be assigned to teach graduate-level CM courses if required by the department. This position’s additional responsibilities include but are not limited to 1) working with CM-AGC student organizations and competition teams (e.g., advising AGC student chapter, participating in ASC CM student competitions, etc.), 2) supervising/mentoring undergraduate CM students, 3) participating in ACCE course and program assessments, 4) engaging with the local construction industry and professional associations to advance CM undergraduate student success, and 5) providing academic service to the CM program, the department, the college, and the university, which will include attending faculty meetings and serving on appropriate committees.

This position is non-tenure track. However, upon review of continued professional growth, the successful FIR applicant can be promoted to associate professor–in-residence, and full professor-in-residence level. It is anticipated that the contract will be renewed annually, subject to satisfactory performance related to the teaching and other job responsibilities as stated above.

*Revised* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. in construction management, built environment, civil engineering, or closely related areas from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

In addition, the successful candidate should:

If the candidate has an earned Ph.D. degree title in an area other than construction management, the area of specialty must be in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Management, or Construction Engineering unless the candidate has extensive documented externally verified experience in the construction industry and teaching CM courses.

  • Provide evidence of effective written and oral communication skills in English.

Preference will be given to Assistant Professor FIR level applicants over the Associate level unless applicants can document considerable professional knowledge and prior industry experience in construction management and extensive prior experience teaching undergraduate CM courses.
