CATEGORY MANAGER - Grow Environments
Overview: GrowGeneration is one of the largest retailers of hydroponic products in the United States and is engaged in the business of marketing and distributing horticultural, organics, lighting, and hydroponics products, including lighting fixtures, nutrients, seeds and growing media, systems, trays, fans, filters, humidifiers and dehumidifiers, timers, instruments, water pumps, irrigation supplies and hand tools.
Position Reports To: VP of Product Category
Purpose of Position: Responsible for the Grow Environment product category (HVAC, Dehumidification, Ventilation, and Water Treatment) business growth strategy, category P&L delivery, and continuous assessment of products, services, and operational effectiveness to support overall success of the organization.
Salary Range: $75-110K DOE
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Category & Portfolio Ownership
  • “Own” the planning and cross-functional execution of organizational strategies, from product launches to new business development opportunities
  • Develop plans for the category product portfolio across multiple brands to deliver sales, revenue, and profit objectives by fulfilling the needs of our cultivation partners
  • Set business priorities across the category product portfolio based on needs, voice of customer, business case and ability to execute. Includes new product development, product improvements, SKU rationalization, and strategic operational excellence
  • Responsible for category P&L and development of priorities
  • Set direction on overall product, price, place and promotion strategies and budget, identifying products & ensuring cross-functional activation
  • Communicate overall category strategies, plans and results to leaders and cross-functional groups on an on-going, consistent basis to drive alignment
  • Lead along with Marketing Operations team in the building of Strategic Marketing Plans for key priorities outlined as part of the long-term strategic plan and brand positioning
  • Develop & implement pricing changes across portfolio on semi-annual basis based on strategic assessment of organizational/category goals and business situation (COGS changes, competitive set, innovation, etc.
Supply Chain & Sourcing
  • Identify and prioritize needs, understand the market to determine appropriate sources of supply, and benchmarking/baselining the current state.
  • Responsible for developing sourcing strategy for the product category, managing, and leading periodic supplier business reviews (i.e., EBs, QBRs, etc.), leading the competitive process (i.e., RFx, Auctions, etc.), supplier selection, commercial negotiations, deal finalization, and similar category manager competencies
  • Understand and research the relevant product categories and subcategories to remain abreast of best practices, leading suppliers, benchmark and baseline data, industry trends, etc.
  • Partner with purchasing to manage onboarding, contracting and negotiations with suppliers as efficiently and effectively as possible
  • Lead some and support all organizational development through roadmap projects, special initiatives, etc.
  • Lead regular business reviews with key suppliers
  • Create approval decks, savings cases, and contract summaries for obtaining internal buy-in
  • Work cross-functionally with internal and external counterparts
  • Provide information to support monthly forecasts vs actuals, project pipeline opportunities, and projected savings
  • International procurement responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field
  • 5 years of experience with previous category or product owner responsibility in the controlled environment agriculture industry
  • Solid technical understanding of one or all of the following: HVAC, Dehumidification, Ventilation and Water Treatment
  • Experience with financial analysis and modeling
  • Extensive experience leading teams & cross-functional projects
  • Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Experience planning both seasonal and replenishment-based categories
  • Ability to synthesize large quantities of and complex data into usable/actionable information
  • Track record of taking ownership and driving results in a data-driven, fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to interact with and influence leadership and customers
  • Proven ability of working with and managing external vendors and partners
  • Proven ability of developing, launching and marketing new products
  • Willingness to travel
Compensation includes a salary commensurate with experience, participation in group insurance plans upon eligibility, paid time off, sick leave, parental leave and more.
