Grote Auto is Hiring an Automotive Service Director Near Rockford, IL

Not your ordinary Service Director position.

We only do recondition of cars to sell, WE OWE work after sale, and Service Contract repairs. Grote Automotive is currently a 5-store group with 4 stores in IN and 1 in IL. We are hiring a Service Director to oversee operations in our warranty and reconditioning dept. This position is the direct report from the Service Manager and Parts Manager along with the entire service operation. We are unique in that we do No Customer Pay service work. The peskiest part of service management is the customers! This job requires less customer involvement than any Service Director position around. We are currently reconditioning 150 cars monthly for this one store and will soon need to raise the bar to 250 as we add a store. Our only customer is the sales dept. We just purchased a new property right near our current location and are in the midst of a build-out. We have a basketful of benefits. We are widely negotiable on compensation. The closest to the ideal fit will be paid as needed. A salary mixed with a portion of the profits is our plan. We may consider a relocation package as well. Check out the list of items below. We have our bar set high. This location has 2 managing partners in it so the consistency is second to none. There is a lot to digest here. Compensation:

$90,000 yearly (Base plus Bonus Plan) Maybe more for right person

Responsibilities:
  • Full oversight of all service and parts operations.
  • Lead your team to win in every position
  • Reconditioning speed to the front line. Having a goal and reaching it weekly.
  • Continued research on technology to further improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure staffing levels are maintained and that there is an adequate backup for each position.
  • Ensure progression path training and certification process is consistently executed.
  • Promote teamwork through all levels of associates.
  • Participate in the selection and hiring process.
  • Train and mentor.
  • Provide competency-based feedback to associates.
  • Take action to determine the most appropriate solution to the problem.
  • Ensure adequate production capacity levels for each line and assist with production planning.
  • Identify problems either through reporting or direct interaction on the shop floor.
  • Provide vision and guidance to the reconditioning team in meeting performance metrics.
  • Positively reinforce and engage the team regarding quality, production, and cost objectives.
  • Participate in and lead continuous improvement efforts.
  • Train and mentor associates on problem-solving.
  • Inspect repair orders daily for legibility, accuracy, and legality.
  • Inspect and maintain the cleanliness, organization, and appearance of all service areas in accordance with state and federal OSHA laws to ensure a professional, safe environment for customers and employees.
  • Hold sublet mechanical shops accountable
  • Hold sublet body shops accountable
  • Run Department EOS meetings on time weekly
  • Think outside the box on issues throughout the workday
  • Track and maintain accurate reports
  • Review reports weekly with upper management
  • Valid DL with a good record last 3 years.
  • 5 years min experience in service management.
  • 5 years min experience in project management.
  • History of managing large teams.
  • Demonstrated abilities utilizing technology the company utilizes accurately, timely, and consistently.
  • A minimum of 5 years in service and/or project management.
  • 5 plus years of managing teams of similar sizes.
  • The Ideal candidate will have 5 years of experience in managing Automotive Fixed operations or equivalent in high-volume automotive processing.
  • Prior experience at Carmax, Carvana, Vroom or other reconditioning centers is preferred.
  • Bachelor's in business operations or supply chain management is preferred.
  • Experience in building and managing high-performance teams.
  • Strong drive for continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable with managing complex processes.
  • Hands-on mentality, someone who is not afraid to jump in at any stage of a process when needed.
  • Proven ability to obtain project deliverables and company metrics.
  • Valid in-state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work accurately and efficiently, and have strong organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to remain flexible in work assignments and schedules, and have the ability to multitask when necessary.
  • Must have good written and oral communication and strong computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Sense of urgency.
  • Typing – the ability to type efficiently.
  • Mathematics – using mathematics to solve problems.
  • Accounting - knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Positive "can do" attitude

About Company

Who is Grote Automotive? Fred Grote has been in the car business for over 25 years. He opened his 1st store in Fort Wayne, IN in 2008. Growing from 25 cars a month to 200 he opened a 2nd store in Warsaw, IN. After Great success there his 3rd store came to Rockford, IL. The 4th and 5th stores have just arrived in IN in 2022 as well. We plan to open 2 more in 2023. We opened here in Rockford in December 2020 and have been growing FAST. We specialize in solving transportation problems that most dealerships can't.
