We are seeking a full-time Senior Architectual Designer with experience working on large healthcare projects. This position will be located in the Chicago office.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze client problems and develop architectural solutions to those problems.
  • Lead design team under direction of Project Manager.
  • Provide design support under direction of design leadership.
  • Perform work on all phases of various architectural projects including concepts/schematic design, design development, preparation of presentation drawings and specifications, design review, coordination, correlation of construction drawings, and construction administration.
  • Prepare schematics, design development, and construction documents.
  • Develop, modify, and review production drawings and edit project narratives and specifications.
  • Research materials to determine the appropriate selection for the project.
  • Plan, coordinate, and administer projects from the initial programming stages all the way through to construction administration.
  • Coordinate with contractors, review submittals, support and/or lead field observations and agency reviews.
  • Mentor younger staff and promote career growth and continuous improvement.
  • Support the firmwide Quality program and provide quality control reviews to your projects as well as off-team reviews of other projects.
  • Serve as the technical leader for the studio and promote expertise in delivery.
  • Provide leadership in studio and firmwide initiatives.
  • Support office community engagement through volunteering and participating in professional organizations.
  • Support business development efforts.
  • Promote Gresham Smith Core Values of commitment, integrity, respect and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture. Architectural license is required to be obtained within 6 months of hire and shall be maintained.
  • Minimum of 15 years of design experience is required. Strongly prefer healthcare facility design experience. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD, REVIT, Sketchup, BlueBeam and PhotoShop software is required. 
  • Ability to interact professionally and comfortably with a variety of personalities and communication styles and build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Excellent time management skills.
