JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: School Nutrition Field Manager
Department: School Nutrition
Reports to: Supervisor of School Nutrition
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
General Description:
? Assists the Supervisor of School Nutrition with the management, direction, and
coordination of the activities of the district's school nutrition program. Responsible for
overseeing the day-to-day operations at school sites.
? Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
? Assists with the management of all operations of the School Nutrition Department for
recommending changes to policies and procedures for consideration by the department.
? Supervises department functions (equipment inventory, kitchen staffing, planning,
scheduling, coordinating activities, training, advising, consulting. etc.) for ensuring that
the department functions in a safe and efficient manner.
? Prepares and updates a variety of records and reports (e.g. memos, letters, procedures,
manuals, schedules, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written
reference, and/or conveying information.
? Helps coordinate school nutrition programs district wide for ensuring that it is
administered in accordance with Federal laws, USDA regulations and School Board
policies.
? Helps implement assigned activities and/or projects (e.g. establishment of delivery
schedules, designing, updating and preparation of special order forms/computerized
procedures for school nutrition operations, etc.) for the purpose of complying with
regulatory requirements and established guidelines
? Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars (e.g. state training, equipment
seminars, food vendor conferences, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering
information required to perform functions.
? Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions for providing direction for meeting the
district's goals and objectives.
? Responds to inquiries of school nutrition staff and non-school nutrition staff, for providing
information on and/or direction regarding school nutrition policies and practices.
? Provides support to School Nutrition Cafeteria Managers for continuous cafeteria
improvement (e.g. Customer service, food quality, marketing, improved operations,
interdepartmental relations, etc.)
? Trains staff in performance of duties.
? Assigns and coordinates work of employees to promote efficiency of operations.
? Inspects kitchen, dining areas and equipment to ensure sanitary standards are met.
? Keeps records such as amount and cost of meals served and hours worked by
employees.
? Helps create work schedules and evaluates work performance of employees.
? Gives recommendations for purchase of new and replacement equipment.
? Reviews all government regulations and helps prepare for federal reviews by making
necessary changes or improvements.
? Meets regularly with cafeteria managers.

? Helps determine personnel needs; reviews applications, interviews candidates, and
recommends candidates to Supervisor of School Nutrition for hire.
? Evaluates personnel in offices under his/her jurisdiction.
? Helps prepare and conduct formal training programs and a continuing program on
sanitation and safety education.
? Applies and monitors for grants related to school nutrition.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Must be knowledgeable of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and
procedures relating to food service.
2. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, both orally and in writing.
3. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals.
4. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, employees, school administrators
and school board.
5. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,
proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
6. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists.
7. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form.
8. Excellent organizational, planning and human relations skills.
9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school nutrition staff,
students, parents and peers.
10. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures. ServSafe Certification is available.
11. Experience in an office setting with desired knowledge, skills, and experience with
multitasking and abilities required.
12. General knowledge of accounting procedures and record keeping.
13. Knowledge of computer programs, email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other office
equipment is necessary.
14. Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, parents, and
employees, and work in a team setting.
15. Ability to organize and prioritize work.
16. Ability to work under pressure and in situations with time schedules and deadlines.
17. Strong math skills and interest in food safety procedures.
Education, Training, and Experience Requirement:
High school diploma required. Post graduate training in food services or nutrition is desirable.
License/Certification:
Valid Driver’s License required. ServSafe Certification preferred.
