JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: The Licensed Practical Nurse’s (LPN) primary role is to provide nursing care for patients who are experiencing common, well-defined health problems. The LPN functions as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, and utilizes the nursing process in implementation of patient’s care. Those services are performed under the supervision of a registered nurse and utilize standardized procedures with predictable outcomes. The LPN adheres to standards and regulations as set forth by the facility’s policies and procedures as well as external credentialing bodies such as JCAHO, OMH and OSHA.

DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The LPN must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, be highly organized, have an understanding and sensitivity to serve in culturally diverse and special needs population of the chronically mentally ill, geriatric, CD, adult psychiatric population as well as has basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Current State of Georgia licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Current certification in American Heart Association CPR or recertification within 6 months of hire date. Current certification in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or obtain certification within 6 months of employment. Demonstrated proficiency in Age and Disability specific competencies demonstrated by successful completion of facility testing. Ability to speak English and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Must have basic knowledge of psychiatric nursing as required by entry level practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand on feet for long intervals and have dexterity to participate in physical restraint of patients when necessary. A certain amount of walking and standing are often necessary to carry out job duties. Lifting/carrying will routinely exceed 10 pounds and involves assisting patients in ambulation, positioning and ADL’s. May be required to lift, roll, or otherwise assist in moving patients. May be subject to physical confrontation and possible assaultive behaviors from patients.
