Description

Job Title: Day Camp Assistant Coordinator

Status: Seasonal (30-40 hours per week)

Reports to: School Age Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Day Camp Assistant Coordinator provides direct leadership, oversight, management, and supervision for Camp Counselor staff. They report to the School Age Director, as well as the School Age Coordinator. The position will be responsible for assisting the School Age Director and Coordinator with the coordination of all staff, volunteers, and facility management. Assists in the management of all program operation, and ensures safety and success of all participants. Embodies the values of the YMCA to ensure that a high quality program is achieved.

Requirements

1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Will have complete responsibility for the operation of the camp if the Camp Director is not present.

2. Assists the Camp Director in planning activities and training staff.

3. Supervises the operation of Day Camp including but not limited to set up and tear down, security, volunteer management and deliverables of program objectives.

4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.

5. Assists the counselors when a camper needs to be disciplined. This function includes filling out the appropriate paperwork and discussing the problematic behaviors with parents and guardians.

6. Conveys information on the program and schedule to parents.

7. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

8. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

9. Organizes and puts away sports and class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.

10. Ensure all staff/volunteers complete necessary paperwork.

11. Mentors youth on the importance of the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at all times.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid. If the applicant does not possess these certifications prior to applying they must be willing to acquire them before they begin working with the campers.

2. Mandated Reporter. If the applicant does not possess this qualification prior to applying they must be willing to acquire it before they begin working with the campers.

3. At least 18 years of age.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit including on the floor for long periods of time.

2. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

3. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 80 pounds.

4. Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.

5. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.

6. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

7. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
