Description

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation is one of the most well-respected, knowledgeable leaders on charitable giving in the nation. We make giving convenient and efficient for donors through donor-advised funds and other types of charitable giving accounts that maximize and organize giving. 

The Philanthropic Advisor provides best-in-class grant-making services to foundations, corporations, and donors. This position manages relationships with a portfolio of supporting organizations, private foundations, families, and individual donors to facilitate their grant-making and foster their engagement in philanthropy and with the Foundation.? The Philanthropic Advisor also provides sector knowledge and collaborate on educational programming to the Foundation’s donor community. This position reports to a Sr. Philanthropic Advisor and is salaried, exempt. 

Essential Functions

  • Provide best in class service to donors and clients as a primary or secondary staff contact.
  • Work one on one with donors and prospective donors to support their charitable giving and continuity planning. 
  • Work one on one with donors and prospective donors to support their charitable giving and continuity planning. As appropriate, promote additional value-added services. 
  • Create content and facilitate opportunities for donors to learn and engage in charitable giving planning. 
  • Conduct research, site visits, and meet with Non-profit agencies to support donors’ interests. 
  • Review grant applications and present high-level overviews to donors.
  • Support the development, promotion, and execution of donor education events.
  • Monitors trends and policy changes affecting the philanthropic sector. Maintain knowledge and expertise in strategies for working with intergenerational wealth, effective grantmaking and philanthropic best practices. 
  • Inform the development and improvement of technological systems that interface with donors and support data management and internal team communications.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 5 years of related experience in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret a variety of instructions and procedures; operate within current industry best practices. 
  • Ability to build professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and successfully communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to make effective speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to varying stakeholders. 
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. High technical aptitude and ability to learn new software quickly and thoroughly.
  • Ability to apply, present, and manage within relevant financial principles and data.
  • Possess operational level of financial acumen and ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Ability to operate a highly collaborative environment, while able to work independently and be self-motivated. Respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; work well under pressure, including identifying and quickly resolve problems.
  • Ability to drive, navigate maps/GPS instructions, and possess reliable transportation with a clean driving record and valid drivers’ license.
