JOB TITLE:
Foreman

FLSA: Non Exempt

REPORTS TO: General Foreman


OVERVIEW

The Foreman is responsible for monitoring quality, safety, and provide planning and direction directly to the assigned crew of craftsmen for construction activities for construction projects.


WORK SCHEDULE

Must have open availability to travel to and work at any location and potentially be away from home for extended periods of time. May be required to work non-standard shifts, any time any day of the week, including weekends and holidays. Employment is “at will” and subject to change depending on departmental needs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Safety – promote safety and work safely around the hazards associated with the construction field.
  • Plan, coordinate and/or supervise construction activities of crews.
  • Thoroughly review contract and all available scope documents, drawings, specifications, and shop estimate.
  • Study project execution and tracking documents including the project execution plan, project safety plan, QA/QC plan, schedule, man loading projections, equipment rental schedule, job cost breakdown and cost codes, installed quantity and labor tracking plan, and subcontracting strategy.
  • Establish shop specific rules and logistic guidelines that make sense as it relates to break times and locations, smoking rules, shift start and stop times and locations, and food or drink concessions.
  • Participate in project kick-off and team building activities.
  • Ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule.
  • Interface with Superintendent to ensure all company, client, and project policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Interface with all project team members as required in the establishment of project schedules and resolving schedule problems.
  • Provide leadership and management for craftsmen, ensuring to organize and lay out work.
  • Ensure that materials, drawings, manpower, specifications, tools, consumables, and equipment are available when needed.
  • Provide prioritized work activity instructions to all craftsmen and monitor their progress.
  • Assist with the implementation/interpretation of safety programs.
  • Responsibilities include verification of maintaining ASME, ANSI and associated codes as required per project.
  • Maintain strict adherence to the policies set forth in the QA/QC manual.
  • Mentor craft personnel for professional development.
  • Determine training needs of craft personnel and assist them in obtaining that training.
  • Monitor crew fatigue and schedule extra overtime only when absolutely necessary.
  • Work within company policies (including Safety and Human Resources policies), client policy and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of local, state and federal statutes and guidelines
  • Miscellaneous duties as directed

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) years of formal training and experience in heavy industrial projects such as refineries, petro- chemical complexes, power plants, etc.
  • Familiar with construction methods, techniques, and labor requirements and how they apply to industrial construction projects.
  • Ability to effectively interact with project team members, clients, subcontractors, and craft employees.
  • Possess excellent leadership skills and have the ability to effectively manage craft employees.
  • Hands-on job foreman experience.
  • Completion of Safety related certifications such as OSHA 10 or Safety council programs as required by company and/or client.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects
  • Frequently lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects with tools and equipment
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • Acceptable visual acuity for near, far and color - naturally or with correction
  • Eye-hand coordination
  • Good physical fitness
  • Good sense of balance
  • Work at great heights is required


TOOL REQUIREMENTS (minimum)

  • Rain Coat or Poncho.
  • Steel toed or Composite toed Work Boots.
  • Safety protection required by work, job site and customer


ENVIRONMENT

Construction workers perform physically demanding work including lifting and carrying heavy objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling in awkward positions. Some work at great heights, or outdoors in all weather conditions. Some jobs expose workers to harmful materials or chemicals, fumes, odors, loud noise or dangerous machinery. Some workers may be exposed to lead based paint, asbestos, or other hazardous substances during their work especially when working in confined spaces. To avoid injury, workers in these jobs wear safety clothing/personal protective equipment such as gloves, hard hats, protective chemical suits, and devices to protect their eyes, respiratory system and hearing. While working in underground construction, Construction workers must be especially alert to safely follow procedures and must deal with a variety of hazards.
