Job Summary: The Secondary Science Specialist provides professional development experiences to Granite School District science teachers in curriculum, instructional strategies, differentiation, and assessment for science content in multiple modalities. The position focuses on promoting the implementation of the Utah Core Standards for Science with research-based practices using district-adopted tools. The Secondary Science Specialist will provide sustained support to Granite District secondary teachers through a continuum of coaching and professional development opportunities. Essential Functions:
Provide professional development experiences in curriculum, instructional strategies, differentiation, and assessment for science content in multiple modalities.
Act as a liaison with Utah State Board of Education and other organizations as appropriate to the position.
Select and requisition books and instruction materials; maintain required inventory records.
Non-essential Functions:
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Understanding of and experience implementing proficiency-based learning and grading.
Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
Possess strong computer and educational technological skills.
Works independently with little direct supervision.
Works as part of a team.
Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a positive learning environment and handle classroom management issues in a calm manner.
Display effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
Required Education and Qualifications:
Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
Requires one of the following:
a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a professional Secondary License Area of Concentration and one of the following professional endorsements:
Biology (1 or 2);
Chemistry (1 or 2);
Earth Science (1 or 2); or
Physics (1 or 2); or
an equivalent license in another state.
Requires a professional Science Core (6-8) endorsement or willingness to obtain the endorsement within two (2) years.
A master's degree in education or a related field is preferred.
Required Prior Experience:
Requires a minimum of five (5) years of secondary (6-12) classroom teaching experience.

Non-supervisory Interaction:
Maintains effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
Interacts and collaborates with employees, board members, patrons, vendors, administrators, and secretaries in schools.

Working Environment:
Work takes place in typical school and office environments.
Requires travel between location on an irregular basis.
Duties include both indoor and outdoor responsibilities in all types of weather and air quality.
