About the Position

The Assistant Division Head of the High School will assist the Head of the High School Division in the leadership of the High School for at least two years. This position reports to the Head of the High School

  • Partner with the Head of High School to create and use systems that amplify the mission of the school across the program
  • Collaborate with the Head of High School and academic departments to ensure a compelling and sensible scope to our academic program in a way that is sequenced intentionally and well
  • Partner with the Head of High School in convening Department Chair meetings that support the development of all Department Chairs in constituting the leadership of the high school’s academic program
  • Partner with the Head of High School in convening Deans meetings in collaboration with the Head of High School that support the development of Deans as key members of the high school leadership team
  • Serve as the lead administrator for the Lab Studies Program by overseeing the curriculum (in collaboration with those colleagues responsible for particular program areas within Lab Studies), monitoring the teaching of the program, and supporting scheduling and logistics
  • In collaboration with the Student Activities Coordinator and Head of High School, design, plan, and run Community Meetings emphasizing student voice and opportunities for community engagement
  • Collaborate with the Head of High School and Dean of Faculty to observe teaching and learning practices, to identify needs and to recommend professional development
  • In collaboration with the Student Activities Coordinator and Head of High School, maintain the high school House system by planning House meetings, competitions, Field Day, and other forms of cross-grade connection.
  • Determine and set departmental staffing, course load, and teaching assignments for each academic year, in conjunction with the Head of High School and Department Chairs.
  • Work closely with the Office of Community Engagement and Head of High School to ensure the development and implementation of the school’s initiatives and programming in DEIBA, in order to advance and support these efforts in the curriculum and cultural life of the division
  • Working with the Registrar and the Academic Systems Manager over the summer, assist in the creation and processing of the academic schedule for the High School Division (including individual teacher and student schedules
  • Create and maintain the annual HS Academic Calendar, as well as the HS Letter Day Schedule, in consultation with the Head of High School
  • Be a visible and positive presence in the life of the school, including attending athletic events, school plays, and other curricular and extracurricular events.
  • Manage the Course Request Process for the following academic year, in coordination with the class deans, registrar, Department Chairs and the Academic Systems Manager, and keep the Course of Studies up to date
  • Partner with the Head of School, the Head of High School, and the Head of Middle School to design strategies to recruit students to the high school, to build relationships and to strengthen ties between the two campuses
  • Participate in recruiting and selecting faculty, even chairing search committees as appropriate
  • Attend Deans Meetings, Guidance Committee Meetings and Discipline Committee Meetings
  • Attend special parent events to build relationships that support school-family partnerships
  • Collaborate with the Head of High School in planning divisional faculty meetings
  • Teach 20% of a load (either one major course or a lab day load)
  • Perform other duties as delegated by the Head of the High School

Qualifications

The strongest applicants will have the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • Significant experience (10 years) and a commitment to continual growth as a teacher at the high school level, through graduate studies or other professional development
  • Prior success in a faculty leadership role
  • A commitment to academic excellence and a devotion to nurturing it and recognizing it in teachers and students
  • A forward-looking perspective with regard to evidence-informed teaching practices and curricular innovation
  • Demonstrated success with project-based, inquiry-based, and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the deft use of the tools of community and culture-building in an inclusive environment, such as restorative practices or circles
  • Inspiring and effective communication built on sensitive and astute listening
  • Compassionate, patient, and joyful in partnering with students, faculty and families
  • Growth mindset, coachable
  • Communicative, collaborative and cooperative
  • Detail-oriented, with strong follow-through

Compensation & Benefits
 
The expected salary range for this position is $67,000 - $149,080, commensurate with qualifications and experience on the faculty salary scale.
