Secondary Math Teacher - Job Description

Summary:

The full-time secondary math teacher is responsible for delivering classroom instruction that builds upon the mathematical foundations students have learned in earlier grades. This position enables students to move beyond mere computational skills to a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and their applications. In addition to mathematical instruction, the teacher's role includes helping students develop a biblical worldview in relation to mathematics and fostering the skills, attitudes, and insights necessary for Christian living.

Major Duties:

Curriculum Subject Content and Developmental Needs:

• Demonstrates a thorough understanding of mathematical content and the developmental needs of students, providing relevant and engaging learning experiences.
• Exhibits expertise in the subject area(s) taught, effectively addressing curriculum standards.
• Understands and responds to the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of the age group.

Instructional Planning & Delivery:

• Designs instruction based on in-depth knowledge of mathematics, students, curriculum standards, and biblical integration.
• Identifies and addresses all students' instructional and developmental needs, including those requiring remediation and high achievers.
• Evaluate, refine, and, when necessary, create instructional materials to enhance learning.
• Incorporates technology and resources to create learning experiences that are engaging, motivating, and challenging.

Student Assessment & Achievement:

• Systematically collects, analyzes, and uses data to measure student progress, guide instruction, and provide constructive feedback.
• Keeps accurate records of assessment data to support the reporting of student progress.
• Adjusts teaching strategies based on assessment data to meet students' learning needs.

Classroom Environment:

• Establishes a safe, Christ-centered environment that is academically stimulating and respectful.
• Promotes trust, teamwork, and effective communication within the classroom.

Extra-Curricular Activities:

• Participates in and supports extra-curricular activities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for the Position:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
• Experience in educating and mentoring young people (e.g., classroom teaching, tutoring, after-school programs).
• Deep knowledge of mathematical concepts, problem-solving, and applications.
• Proficient in the use of educational technology and computer applications.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
• Committed to Christian education and in full agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith.

Additional Requirements:

• A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and membership in good standing in a church of like faith and practice.
• Demonstrated spiritual, academic, and leadership abilities reflecting the school's mission to honor Christ in every class and activity.
• Certification by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) or a commitment to seek and maintain such certification.

• Direct supervision by the Principal.
