Gordon Brothers is Hiring a Remote Director, Accounting Operations
Description Director, Accounting Operations Role Overview The Director, Accounting Operations will lead & manage all areas of Gordon Brothers Group’s management accounting function as well as executing and contributing to broader business initiatives. Reporting to Senior Director, Global Controller and working alongside the Director, External Reporting and Compliance & Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, the role will be responsible for all aspects of accounting and internal controls for our North American entities as well as maintaining an oversight of our EMEA & APAC operations. The director will play a key role in building and strengthening the finance team based in Boston, to create an exceptional accounting function capable of delivering on the internal & external reporting needs of a complex and growing group. This position plays a key leadership role and will be an important contributor to help achieve the business strategy of Gordon Brothers. The successful candidate will be expected to proactively support the Global Controller in driving forward business improvements in internal controls, reporting structures, and compliance obligations. Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions Own, manage and provide the overall strategic direction in all aspects of management accounting, including the structure & quality of the underlying financial data, efficient use of systems and technology, and a robust suite of internal controls - building and improving these processes to deliver timely, accurate and insightful management information, consistently across all regions. Manage the harmonization of processes, internal controls, accounting entries, application of accounting policies and use of systems across all regions and areas of the business, to achieve a consistently applied best practice model. Develop and implement initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function - ensure the efficient close of each accounting period to facilitate the business being able to report in an accurate, timely and consistent manner each period. Lead discussions with the Director, External Reporting & Compliance and the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, to understand the drivers of business performance and financial results. Partner with the Director, External Reporting & Compliance to ensure that all accounting entries and processes are in compliance with US GAAP & consistent with Gordon Brother’s accounting policies and are captured and recorded appropriately. Partner with the Director, Financial, Planning & Analysis to ensure that the structure used for internal classifications of transactions is robust, consistently applied & sufficient for internal reporting purposes. Partner with Senior Director, Technology Optimization & Implementation to introduce and integrate tools and technologies to drive efficiency and consistency in data handling and management reporting across the group. Lead the integration of new acquisitions into the financial reporting structures and processes of Gordon Brothers, including the transition of acquired entities onto our ERP system. Lead, develop and enhance the skills of the team to help them grow and progress. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong financial background and technical ability with proven experience of building, developing and leading an accounting function able to serve the needs of a complex, growing & fast changing business. Collaborative, team player adept at working with and building constructive relationships with stakeholders across the business. In particular, the ability to develop, motivate and expand the existing accounting team empowering them to maximize their individual contribution to the process. Excellent IT / ERP system knowledge and the ability to assist in the implementation of NetSuite Planning & Budgeting (NSPB) & Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) Ability to manage and drive multiple processes and deliverables at once in a dynamic environment; highly detail oriented and organized. High degree of intellectual curiosity, hungry to learn & self-motivated. Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and moderate based on audience. Ability to communicate effectively across multiple organizational layers and departments. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other highly quantitative degree required. Advanced degree / qualifications (MBA, CPA, CFA) preferred. Minimum 5-10 years corporate or significant divisional accounting experience in a fast-paced financial services or professional services firm. Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed expectations and help others drive results.
