Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The registrar will report to the Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid and will be a part of the University Registrar team. This position is full time and provides direct oversite of all activities within and related to student course registration. The registrar’s role spans across several aspects of the university’s’ functions, including, oversight of student status, course registration, monitoring of student satisfactory academic progress, degree auditing for graduation, and support of the university’s academic advising department. This position requires a distinct combination of strong leadership and technical skills. The registrar must develop and preserve collaborative working relationships with institutional leadership, faculty, and staff. It is imperative the registrar also have exceptional knowledge of relevant policies established by federal, state, administrative, and academic entities pertaining to their role and oversee compliance efforts of these policies across the university.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees registration process, including record creation, course schedule building, classroom assignment, grade processing, transcript issuance, and student enrollment verification
  • Manages transfer credit process and prior learning credit process including transcript evaluations
  • Responsible for the development of the academic calendar in collaboration with registrar atTheUniversity of Bridgeport
  • Responsible for annual review and publication process of the university catalog
  • Responsible for end of semester and module processing, including academic action processes, communication with students related to these actions, and Dean’s List processing
  • Responsible for enrollment and degree reporting to the National Student Clearinghouse
  • Establishes and sustains collaborative and effective relationships with leaders across both the Goodwin University and University of Bridgeport campuses as appropriate to execute essential job functions
  • Serves on various university committees and advisory groups, including commencement committee and the records review committee
  • Manages department budget, including establishment of budget priorities
  • Directs the activities of support staff; determines personnel decisions including staffing needs, hiring,training, and evaluation of all staff
  • Enforces the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and acts as university’s compliance officer for FERPA
  • Participates in Commencement activities; certifies all student record documents related to degree completion and produces diplomas
  • Provides Institutional Research assistance for IPEDS, the Common Data Set, US News & World Report, Petersons, the Princeton Review, and NECHE Annual Report
  • Supports auditing and compliance processes from outside organizations, including the Veterans Association

Other Functions

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in related field preferred, bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience with Ellucian (Colleague)
  • Experience with online catalog software, Acalog
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in a relevant field
  • 4-6 years supervisory experience
  • Experience working in collaborative environment with university faculty, students, administrators, and staff, as well as various outside organizations and agencies in enforcing key University academic policies
  • Experience, background, and/or demonstrated knowledge in transcription, including extended transcripts
  • Experience working with dual enrollment/ dual degree programs
  • Demonstrated advocacy skills for both faculty and students through direct and indirect interactions
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Experience managing complex records systems and computer systems development in a registrar office or admissions office (specific experience with Ellucian/Colleague preferred)
