Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The Director of Workforce Development supports all workforce development efforts for the Continuing Education Division. This position directs staff efforts, markets educational offerings, maintains oversight of training records, funding sources and invoicing. Works collaboratively with other business units at the University.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and pro-active oversight on all Continuing Education activities, including all workforce development offerings, and adherence to budget requirements
  • Participates in public relations events (career and job fairs for example), internal and external tours (university areas and business/industry partner related)
  • Oversee relationship management of employers participating in pre-apprenticeships. Seek out new employers to participate
  • Oversee relationship management of employers who participate in incumbent worker training in all/various industry sectors
  • Define goals, outcomes, expectations and deadlines for CE program coordinators to schedule training and recruit new employer participation
  • Working with the Sr. Dir. of Continuing Education and the Grants Management team, oversees workforce development grants for the division, and ensures effective execution, budget monitoring and timely, accurate reporting as required by the grantors
  • Actively maintains positive relationship with various positions within local, state, regional and national entities/offices to ensure growth and continuation of successful partnerships
  • Coordinate with Sr. Director of Continuing Education, Sr. Director of College Relations, and other appropriate Goodwin staff/administrators, concerning VIP legislative visits pertaining to workforce development
  • Actively maintain and seek out new community relationships which could benefit from the offerings of the Continuing Education division
  • In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Continuing education, envision new and creative ways to create and expand CE’s visibility within the community
  • In conjunction with the Sr. Director of Continuing Education, represent the university as appropriate with community, business and industry, and government Market continuing education classes and training related to workforce development
  • Handles administrative coordination and oversight of related programs, grants and contracts
  • In conjunction with the Sr. Director of Continuing Education, serves as a liaison with employers in all business and industry sectors as appropriate
  • In conjunction with the Sr. Director of Continuing Education and the Director of University Relations, coordinates mobile manufacturing lab events/scheduling/marketing
  • Supports all Continuing Education initiatives
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and follows all work safety practices
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed by the Sr. Director of Continuing Education and program directors, or the situation dictates.

Other Functions:

  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Microsoft Office skills required, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Requires excellent written and verbal communications skill; skills in information gathering and monitoring and the ability to assess, think critically, and recommend solutions to problems

  • Ability to work well as a team player and independently; ability to work in a collaborative manner
  • Ability to identify needs and prioritize tasks and adjust as necessary

  • Ability to identify and development subject matter expert instructors (all workforce related areas) in order to develop and strong bench of adjuncts available for Continuing Education

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree, Master preferred
  • 1-3 years’ relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated marketing and communications abilities
