Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The Goodwin University School of Applied Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites applications for the Assistant Professor of Human Services and Internship Coordinator position. In addition to teaching classes, the human services faculty internship coordinator guides students toward securing suitable internships and ensures the learning aligns with academic and career goals. The faculty facilitates a weekly seminar, offers ongoing support and communication, and evaluates the student's internship performance to ensure a successful and enriching experience for the student and the internship site. The person also acts as a liaison, building relationships with potential sites and facilitating communication between students, internship sites, and the university.

Full-time faculty members at Goodwin University are responsible for maintaining the highest academic standards in their disciplines. Faculty teach 15 credits hours per semester3 semesters per yearon campus and online (synchronous and asynchronous). They are expected to stay current with disciplinary trends and teaching methods, participate in university, professional, and community service, and engage in scholarly work related to teaching and learning.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Abide by and upholding Goodwin’s mission, policies, and core values
  • Teach all courses according to approved syllabi.
  • Ensure that each course contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency.
  • Hold all assigned classes as scheduled.
  • Maintain office hours as required.
  • Assess student academic achievement and modify teaching techniques based on assessment feedback.
  • Submit reports in an accurate and timely manner, including attendance, grades, and other related documentation.
  • Engage with other faculty in developing, implementing, and evaluating program outcomes and curricular alignment based on assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Attend all university, school, and program meetings as required.
  • Complete professional learning activities to remain informed of current trends and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Participate in service to the school, university, and the profession.
  • Engage in scholarly work relevant to disciplinary expertise (e.g., publications, presentations).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Human Services Director and the Dean.
  • Conduct all work safely and follow all work safety practices.

Other Functions:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with internship sites and build internship opportunities.
  • Provide pre-placement guidance, helping students identify suitable internship opportunities based on their career interests and academic goals.
  • Review and approve internship agreements, ensuring internship sites offer learning experiences that meet students’ goals and academic requirements.
  • Facilitate weekly seminar meetings, providing resources, addressing questions or concerns that may arise during the internship, and preparing students for professional practice.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and feedback to students throughout the internship, monitoring progress and offering guidance on navigating workplace challenges.
  • Act as a liaison between students, field supervisors at the internship sites, and the university.
  • Evaluate the student's internship performance, including assessing the student's coursework and reflections, ensuring the minimum required hours are met, reviewing evaluations from the field supervisor, and assigning a final grade for the internship credit.

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
  • A commitment to the academic, emotional, and social development of all students
  • A successful record of teaching undergraduate human services courses and leading and implementing related fieldwork (e.g., internships)
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in developing curriculum and instruction in undergraduate education
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and interpret student learning outcome data to improve teaching and learning
  • Established skills in teaching in online environments (synchronous and asynchronous)
  • Established skills in using web-based applications and learning management software
  • Proven ability to relate well to others within the higher education academic environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Qualifications


  • A master’s degree in human services, social work, or a related field.
  • Three - five years’ experience working in higher education.
