Goodwill of Western & Northern Connecticut is Hiring a Human Services Associate (Non-Driver) Near BRIDGEPORT, CT

As a Human Services Associate, you would be watching over and supporting program participants with disabilities within various HS programs.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain knowledge of participant Individual Service Plans (ISP) and goals in order to deliver appropriate programming and supports.
  2. Communicate participant progress to appropriate team members, supervisors, and stake holders.
  3. Complete applicable written documentation and data collection.
  4. Document on-site emergencies and incidents according to program/funding source guidelines.
  5. Ensure program participants are in compliance with guidelines outlined in Goodwill’s Program Participant Handbook.
  6. Seek input from participants, family members, significant others, counselors, and team members when conducting services. 
  7. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  8. Maintain HIPAA compliance for privacy while ensuring best practices. Under the HIPAA Privacy Rule, this position has access to consumer Protected Health Information (PHI).
  9. Participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings, staff development programs, professional meetings, conferences, and related programs as requested.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Program Specific Responsibilities:

Community-Based Day Services Programs

  1. Lead individuals in age-appropriate activities.
  2. Contribute data to Individual Service and Behavioral Plans daily.
  3. Assists in the development and implementation of monthly programming schedules; including facility and community-based activities. 
  4. Implement behavior plan guidelines as required. 
  5. Provides personal care assistance to program participants.
  6. Maintain certification in Physical Management Techniques (PMT) and/or DDS Medication Administration as required.

Transitional and Competitive Employment Programs

  1. Provide vocational instruction for teaching participants work tasks and appropriate social skills, whether on-site or during job skills training groups.
  2. Interface with designated team members to maintain schedules to support participants.
  3. Ensure participant safety by familiarizing participants with safety rules and regulations at their work or volunteer sites.
  4. Complete applicable written documentation and data collection within the Therap case management system, including reporting on participant goals outlined in the ISP Program Data.
  5. Encourage participants to maximize production and enhance relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
  6. Report individual participant progress to the Goodwill DDS Case Manager during weekly team meetings.
  7. Maintain regular communication with employers to review productivity and quality of work.
  8. Complete weekly timecards with input from participants who engage in temporary work experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred or a combination of education, training or practical work experience considered.
  • Excellent organizational, both verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Training Requirements:

  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are required (can be scheduled post-employment in accordance with staff development plan).
  • Physical and Psychological Training (PMT) required. (can be scheduled post-employment in accordance with staff development plan).
  • May be required to seek DDS Medication Administration Certification. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May be required to assist individuals with mobility and physical transfers. Hoyer Lifts may be involved.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time.
