Job Title: Retail Sales Clerk - Outlet Store

Division: Operations / Retail

Department: Retail

Reports To: Retail Store Manager / Assistant Store Manager

SUMMARY: 

Provide store logistical support and customer service for the retail stores in a variety of activities including cashiering and stocking and replenishment of stock.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Cashiering Activities:

Operates the cash register system by completing sales transactions according to all policies / procedures for cashiering. Records sales, receives payments, and verifies credit / check approvals through established procedures. 

Follows all cash handling procedures as established by company guidelines including register ring up, locking register draws, and opening / closing procedures.

Assists with customer price inquiries, purchase adjustments / concerns and solicits the help of store management when necessary.

Provides information, direction, and assistance for customer inquiries.

Be attentive to suspicious shoppers and potential shoplifting situations. Report situations to store management.

Perform other duties including custodial services for the premises as assigned by store management.

Greeter / Utility Activities:

Greets and acknowledges all customers and donors at the main entrance and donation drop-off area.

Provides security to assure that all Goodwill shopping carts and hand baskets remain in the store. These carts / baskets are not allowed off premises.

Clears out all fitting rooms of clothing, hangers, and debris every hour. Returns items to rack.

Reports incidents of vandalism and repairs to store management when necessary.

Be attentive and alert for potential shoplifters or vandals among the shoppers in the store.

Alerts store management of any incident or potential situations.

Assists with clearing hangers from the hanger management system. 

Assists the replenishment team in conducting the weekly textile "color" pull from the rotation.

Directs and assists customers to locate merchandise within the store.

Performs other duties including custodial services for the premise as assigned by management.

Stocking / Replenishment Activities:

Straightens merchandise, moves goods from the backroom area, re-prices goods as directed per store management, stocks fixtures and shelves, pulls "color" rotation for textiles weekly, and other related activities associated with replenishment of inventory stock.

Meets / exceeds established guidelines for standards of productivity for replenishment of inventory to the sales floor. Including productivity rate for textile, wares, and miscellaneous merchandise. Store management will provide productivity standards. 

Assists with other activities of movement of merchandise within the facility as directed by store management as needed.

Check the restrooms on the hour for cleanliness and to do partial cleaning / replenishment of paper goods as needed.

Conducts work in a safe and responsible manner, utilizing protective clothing and/or equipment when appropriate. Complies with all safety standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Sales Duties:

Walks the sales floor and observes what is available for sale.

Approaches customers and asks to be of assistance.

Constantly do a visual scan of the sales floor and observe the activities of customers. Do not be afraid to make eye contact.

Informs customers that fresh merchandise arrives daily.

Remember: the customer is the reason you are here; you are never too busy to assist a customer. 

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Individual must have a positive attitude and enjoy working with people. Prior customer service experience and or training highly desirable.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience that shows potential to perform the essential duties of this position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, hear, and talk. The employee must be able to stand/walk for several hours at a time. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell. The employee must frequently lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally maneuver wheeled containers weighing up to 300 pounds.
