Job Title: Career Navigator

Location:

Schedule: Core hours are Monday through Friday 7:45am – 4:30pm. Regular travel is required. This position may require off-island travel.

Compensation: Based on experience with competitive benefits package

Summary: As a Career Navigator, you will market and represent the Supporting Employment Empowerment (SEE) Hawaii Work Program to community business employers, assist employers with partnering with SEE Hawaii Work Program, work with FTW Case Managers to determine a SEE participant’s job readiness and prepare participants for success in finding and retaining employment. You will be the primary program liaison between the SEE participants and SEE employers, matching each participant to the business’ employment needs. You will also provide pre- and post-employment support to ensure Program participants and partner employers’ successful involvement in the SEE Hawaii Work Program.

We’re looking for someone who is highly motivated, has excellent communication and organization skills, experience with motivational interviewing, and is comfortable with public speaking! If you’re looking for a multi-faceted position where no two days are the same, then this job is for you!

Essential Duties: 

Employment Development

  • Works closely with the business community to stay abreast of job trends and current labor market needs.
  • Researches prospective partner businesses through varied means, including print records, media data, internet, and networking opportunities.
  • Participates directly with the business community through business associations, personal contacts and referrals to inform the business community of the employment services offered by the program and explore opportunities for partner business participation in the SEE Program.
  • Develops relationships in the business community and obtains information regarding the nature of employment, including hiring requirements in the areas of skills, experience, education, and other qualifications.
  • Originate outreach to prospective partner employers and provides information about the benefits of the SEE Program. Responds to inquiries from prospective partners. Develops marketing tools to promote the SEE Program with wide range of prospective employers.

Participant Employment Empowerment

  • Works closely with the FTW Case Managers and other partner agency staff to assess and evaluate each participant’s job readiness.
  • Collects, organizes and analyzes information through records, tests, interviews and professional sources to appraise each participant’s work experience, interests, aptitudes, abilities and personality characteristics to determine job qualifications and employment goals.
  • Generate job referrals for participants to prospective positions keeping in mind the “best fit” for both the participant and SEE employer.
  • Counsels participants and provides both individual and group educational and vocational guidance services when needed. Develops and conducts workshops and other resources, as needed, to increase participants’ job readiness.
  • As requested by the partner employer, schedules interviews with the selected eligible applicants. Works with the participants prior to the interview to practice and polish interviewing skills through mock interview training and other job readiness training.
  • Provides case management services to participants.

Post-Employment Follow-Up

  • Works to ensure a successful training period and increase job retention by maintaining regular weekly, or as needed, on/off-site and/or on/off-hours follow-up with participants at the start of employment and following employment to monitor progress and address any inquiries and/or challenges the participant may have regarding the employment or the employer.
  • Maintains regular communication with the FTW Case Manager, reporting each participant’s employment progress, providing the information the Case Manager requires to ensure the participant’s compliance with the FTW participation requirements.
  • Refers to the Case Manager, any psychosocial or other non-employment issues suspected of or disclosed by a participant.
  • Submits to the Case Manager the original SEE Agreement, retaining a copy of the agreement in the program files and the SEE Client Evaluation Form.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and
  • One to two years related work experience and/or training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Valid Hawaii driver’s license and a traffic abstract that meet company guidelines
  • Access to an insured vehicle with current registration and safety check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or Marketing and Communications is preferred
