Report to: Head of Lower School
FSLA Qualification: Exempt
Position Purpose: To teach, enrich, and reinforce the grade level/subject curriculum while caring for the whole child.
Essential Functions:
● Uphold and support the mission of the Episcopal Church and the School.
● Meet all teacher expectations and duties as outlined in the Employee Manual.
● Collaborate with colleagues.
● Maintain a positive team attitude.
● Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies, curriculum,
and philosophy of the school.
● Treat each child with dignity and respect.
● Provide not only for each child’s academic needs but help develop social and emotional maturity.
● Attend all required meetings and other occasional events which may occur outside of school hours.
● Student supervision.
● Assess and monitor student progress.
● Maintain an orderly classroom.
● Revise and update the curriculum.
● Prepare report cards, which include written comments.
● Prepare and conduct Parent-teacher Conferences.
● Review student assessments and implement individual strategies for learning.
● Send timely, proactive, and regular communication with parents.
● Act as a mentor to new teachers.
● Participate on school committees and in extra-curricular activities as required.
● Carpool, recess, special event, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
● Minimum of a bachelors’ degree from a four year college/university
● Teacher certification
● Strength in math, language arts, and/or social studies instruction, best practices
● Experience as a homeroom teacher in elementary grades preferred
● Competence in technology
● Experience in integrating curriculum
● Willingness to work in a collaborative, team environment
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Ability to differentiate curriculum for students with varying learning styles
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
● Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
● Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.
● Works in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied
and diverse array of contacts.
● May work at a desk and computer and stand for extended periods of time.
