Job Summary:

The Activity Assistant is responsible for assisting the residents in attending and performing the planned schedule of recreational, social, education and therapeutic activities.

Qualifications:

1. The Activity Assistant must be eighteen (18) years of age.

2. LearN residents' needs and desires

3. Understand the purposes and results of games, crafts, and activities

4. Be conscious of feelings, emotions, and concerns of the residents.

5. Should enjoy working with the elderly, be freindly, patients, creative, and have a caring attitude.

SPECIFIC DUTIES.

1. Announce date, activities and menus for the day. Change calender, weather and birthdays appropriate.

2. Lead group activities as directed; assist in planning.

3. Move tables to allow room for exercise.

4. Transport all residents to the main dining room or outdoors from day room, nursing station, hallways. Travel down hallways to ask and remind residents of activities.

5. Visit with residents providing sensory stimulation and reality/validation orientation.

6. Store and maintain supplies in an orderly manner.

7. May be responsible for general housekeeping duties in activity areas.

8. Move tables and place residents accordingly so that they will be able to talk and see the TV.

9. Attend in-service training and continuing educational workshops.

10. Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms of resident which may signify a physical change in condition which could require nursing intervention.

11. Constantly be on the alert for conditions interfering with the safety and well-being of residents involved in activity programs.

12. Complete all required documentation, e.g., type of activity, attendance record, etc.

13. Adhere to established policies and procedures of the facility and maintain confidentiality.
