Managing Editor
GCSAA is seeking an individual to manage the monthly publication process from design to publication, including writing, editing, design guidance and proofing of materials for the current issue of Golf Course Management (GCM) magazine. The Managing Editor has full authority and control over the monthly publication process and makes impactful decisions related to the operations of GCM. This position manages all aspects of the prepress process, from creation to final production, including gathering content and artwork, online proofing and approval of editorial pages, writing of monthly articles as assigned and providing guidance on the aesthetic layout and design.
Qualified candidates possess:
  • Advanced knowledge of news and feature writing, interviewing and copy editing
  • Minimum five to seven years of professional experience as a journalist, editor or writer; some experience specifically in magazine or newspaper journalism
  • Strong project management experience with a proven track record of meeting deadlines
  • Working knowledge of AP (Associated Press) style format
  • Strong editing skills and high attention to detail
  • Experience with managing staff’s workflow, particularly in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to cultivate new sources to keep GCM content relevant with industry trends and contribute to GCM’s digital social media properties (Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.)
  • An organized and creative skill set and willingness to work with GCSAA Creative Services & Corporate Sales teams
  • Ability to travel, including weekends and overnight stays (approx. 10%) attending events in order to prepare articles for GCM and GCMOnline. Attend & participate in GCSAA’s annual Conference & Trade Show
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, mass communications or related field or equivalent experience
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, etc.) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop)
